I thought I read that the New Surfact Book has a 10 hr battery life.

That was one of the features that interested me with this machine.

The first time I ran it with no power attached I started getting warning lights after about a morning's work.

In this month's PC Pro Jon Honeyball recommended turning the screen round. He says " I get the advantage of this because the second battery is in the keyboard" ie He appears to be saying that the extended battery life is only available when the machine is used as a flat touch screen.

Is he right or am I missing something. The work for which I invariably use this machine requires a keyboard and I would really appreciate a longer battery life when travelling

Battery life depends on many parameters. How many apps are running at the same time? What kind of apps? Games make the CPUs run hotter and cause more battery drain. What is the screen brightness? What browser do you use? Chrome uses more battery than Edge for example.
With my usage I get between 7 to 9 hours out of a single charge on my Surface Book.
