My aunt's Lumia 635 was stolen. I'm trying to help my cousin prevent her data from being stolen.

He tried to change the Microsoft password but it says that he won't be able to do it until one month from now. And he mentioned it asked for a code sent by SMS to that phone, so, yeah, that won't be the way.

But the main question he has, that I can't fully answer, is that by Removing it as a Device in her Microsoft account page her MS account is safe. That is, if Remove My Device is enough to prevent whoever that has the phone to see her information and change the MS password.

At this point all sensible passwords are already changed and the only one left is the MS account password.

What do you mean by login? If you remove the device from the list of devices, it no longer has access to the Microsoft account. The person can still unlock the phone if they have the PIN.

So yes, if the phone is removed from the list, the Microsoft account is safe. The data on the phone is a different matter.
