I believe you are seeing a network error because the Symbian updates were closed down when MS took control of Nokia.
The Nokia updater most likely can't connect because there is nothing to connect to.

Microsoft was hosting the Symbian ROMs for a time after the Nokia phone divisions buy. I can't find any of that now and there isn't even a Symbian area on XDA that I can find any longer.

As an aside, they have really jacked up XDA.. It's such an ungainly site to navigate I can't hardly stand to look at it anymore. I did spend quite a bit of time trying to track something down to get an E5 going again... It was painful as well as unfruitful.

I'm sorry to say your device may be a casualty that won't recover.
