Why do I have to hit a "Play" icon each time to start an Activex Java widget?

I had to make sure Shockwave Flash object was enable in Internet Explorer. Once I did that my Java Applet will run in Microsoft Edge as well. The issue I have it that it appears with a "Play" icon in the center of the widget that I have to hit to start each time I access that particular website. Can an auto start on this Shockwave object be done? How?
