I've noticed a few times emails from people that seem to have an email address with their last name. Example: if a contact is John Smith, they have an email address such as: John@smith.com. They don't have a website or business but they have an email address with their family name.
How does one get this? Is it expensive?

Hi ! Not sure why you would want to do that. Sounds like a good way to pick up a lot of spam.
If the name isn't already taken on that email server, you should be able to use any name you want. You might have to change your first name or use some numbers ect, if the last name is being used by someone else on that email server.
Hope this answers your question. I think I'm right about this.
