I'm actually not very well-versed in computer terms but I think it's a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter. Hmm I'm not really sure what those frames are so nope, haven't tried that yet. And sorry, but how do I check the bandwidth mode? As for the preamble, it says 802.11b Preamble - Long and Short. I don't know if this helps or if it's related, but when I run "netsh wlan show interfaces" on command prompt (admin), the Qualcomm Adapter appears and its state is reflected as "disconnected".
Oh and I think I should clarify - I can only receive text messages on whatsapp (or other similar apps) when connected to wifi - it is unable to download images. Thanks once again for your help!
No problem at all :)
Interesting it's connecting with 802.11b, do you have drop down options where it says 80211b preamble - long and short?
As that chipset is supposed to support 802.11b,g and n standards (the latter being the fastest).
To check your bandwidth mode, it's usually listed in the advanced tab where you can see the preamble mode.
However what is displayed in the advanced tab varies from wireless adapter to wireless adapter.
As you can see below.

Also do you have a router or it's a prepaid usb adapter?
Lastly which OS are you running?
