Why i can't connect to internet using VPN softwares in Windows 10?

when I try to connect to internet using VPN softwares like Betternet,Easysurf,etc. I can't surf internet. Softwares only say they are trying to connect and it will not get connected even if I wait for ages.

I'm not entirely familiar with those applications. Do you have a VPN service that you can connect to? Or do those applications offer a free VPN backend for you to connect to?
