@Montpbm Hey there. From the sound of things you are planning to do architecture/engineering work with the surface book. From one designer to the other, I think your surface book choice is great.

And unfortunately the base spec surface book won't cut it, especially for heavy programs like AutoCAD. When you start loading Revit models with lots of components inside it, it will lag heavily.

So the lowest you can go, considering future proofing, is the Surface Book with the 6th Gen Intel Core i7, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM and a dedicated Graphics Card. It costs around 2100 dollars, but if you are a student you can get a special discount.

The best however is the Surface Book with the performance base. It has better processing power, but the benefit also comes with the price. With a really good model (Surface Book with Performance Base - 512GB / Intel Core i7 with 16GB Ram) going for 2800 dollars.

    Hope this helps.

    If not, ask again. :)
