I want to play my movies I bought on microsoft movies and tv on my xbox one s without streaming them. Xbox one s won't allow you to down load them. I was wondering if it is possible to plug an external hard drive into my computer download the movies and then plug the hard drive into the Xbox and play the movies threw the microsoft movies app? I've contacted microsoft and they said the ability to download on the Xbox one might come in a future update but that was about 6 months ago.

Movies purchased from Microsoft are DRM'd to not play on a device not signed into your Microsoft account. They are portable between your devices providing they are signed into the MSFT account used to purchase. I've done this, moved downloads between devices. The device you are moving them to does need an internet connection to authenticate the account when you open the files, however.

Another answer is a streaming stick connected to the TV and stream them from your PC/Laptop if an HDMI cable is not feasible.
