How to find from where DFS Namespaces are coming from?

Asked: Jul 11 2020 | 5:14 am EDT 604 Views 1 Answers

I have recently Migrated file server from old Windows 2008 R2 server to Windows 2016 server as Windows 2008 R2 is approaching End of life. I have added DFS roots on C drive and added Namespaces using Add Namespaces to Display option. Namespaces got added successfully.

We do not have any real data present on new 2016 server, targets are pointing to different servers on our own network. We have more than thousands of servers in our network, some physical, some are VM or some are in Cluster.

My questions are:

There are couple of DFS Servers on network but How can I figure out where Main/Global DFS server is located?

I am looking for main DFS Server because I want to find how Namespaces are populating while adding Namespaces from Add Namespace to Display option?

I have tried couple of PowerShell commands but couldn’t find from where DFS Namespaces are coming from?

How to Audit DFS Shares, Namespaces

Please Suggest and let me know if you have questions for me
