Just about any non-Sprint phone will refuse to work on Sprint.

It just doesn't have the hardware to talk to Sprints network. (or VZW's for that matter)

Neither carrier would easily let a phone they didn't sell onto their network either, even if the phone was technically compatible.

Sprint and Verizon both use a network technology called CDMA, which is different from the international standard of GSM. Sprint and Verizon commonly use dual-mode phones which use GSM for international travel, but their home networks are mainly CDMA (with a little LTE). LTE is a new standard which is the upgrade path for both CDMA and GSM, but Verizon and Sprint still rely heavily on their CDMA network for coverage. Thus, Sprint and Verizon need specific phones that have been designed to work on their networks.
