My family and I went to the NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway. As soon as we got near the track our cell signal dropped out completely. We are on AT&T. My wife and I have Lumia 920's and my kids have iPhones, a 3 and a 4. The weird thing was that we would have full bars but we could not send text messages nor make calls. When turning on cell data the signal would jump back and forth from no service to full bars. When we left the track and got a few miles down the road all went back to normal and our phones worked as they should. Any one else have this problem at high attendance events? Or, since Sprint sponsors NASCAR, could they have been doing something silly with other carriers in the area?

I've had it happen at a high attendance event. Was downtown for the parade when the Mavericks won the NBA title. I had full bars but could not make a call, send a text or receive any. It was happening to others regardless of the carrier. It was explained that with that many people in a concentrated, trying to text or send pictures, the networks couldn't handle the load.

Network overload is the cause, and It happens regardless of carrier.

I've experienced it at midnight on New Year's, and so have my friends. I didn't matter what carrier people had when everyone in the time zone was trying to text "Happy New Year" simultaneously. All of us at a party had similar issues when we tried to text family/friends who were elsewhere.

I figured that was the problem. I was hoping for a "Sprint vs. all other carriers" conspiracy though.

You may want to read some of the posts on Sprint's official FB page in regards to NASCAR and NBA events in previous months and last year. Some people are just awful at trolling.

I haven't had any problems with Verizon at Charlotte, Talladega, Daytona or Martinsville Races but I have had people sitting right next to me have a problem, though oddly enough it didn't seem to matter what carrier (att, Verizon, sprint, etc.)
