    I have a friend that lives in Canada.. Can I text that friend without getting ridiculous fees on my standard unlimited texting plan?

    I believe only Verizon does that. For AT&T if I'm not mistaken you would need international texting. International Text, Picture & Video Messaging - Wireless from AT&T

    Hmm... T-Mobile has free international texting. Some years back, I used to get charged for that (have an old boyfriend from Sweden who used to visit the States and text/call me from his Swedish cell phone). It doesn't surprise me if you get charged for texting your friend in Canada on AT&T.

    AT&T International Long Distance Calling & Dialing - from AT&T

    International texting and MMS is automatically included only if you're on a mobile share value plan.

    Check the country list to see which carriers are included for texting and/or MMS.
