Carrier Question

I have a few questions regarding switching phone carriers.

Scenario: I am an AT&T wireless subscriber - have all AT&T branded phones (lumia 1020 myself).

1. Once I switch to Cricket, and put in Cricket SIM, will my phone receive updates?
2. If so, will the updates come from Cricket, or still AT&T?

Updates come from the carrier that the devices were originally branded to, which is AT&T in your case.

Laura is correct (as always).

If you move to Cricket you still get your ATT updates to the phones. Also, you don't even have to unlock the phones as Cricket is an ATT mvno. Of course unlocking them never hurts the value.
