Slow charging when connected to the dock?

I just received my dock today and it's been working great so far.

However when I plugged in my phone it was around 54% battery and it was very very slowly chargin (definitely not fast charging) and the phone got pretty warm.

Later when I tried the dock at 100% battery the phone got nowhere as warm.

Is this normal or is my dock somehow defective?

If you have USB accessories connected which use a lot of power then there might not be much juice left for the phone itself.

It's totally normal for the phone to get warm when charging though.

The dock as well as all the USB components use power too, plus the phone is charging mechanism is meant to slow down is the battery closer to full as a protection to battery anyway.
And when your phone is in charging, it make sense there would be heat, since normal room temperatures superconductor doesn't exist yet.

Continuum certainly uses a reasonable amount of juice from the phone -- I have noticed the same thing when using the dock -- slow-ish charging. I also have a MS Wireless Display Adapter, so my new favorite setup is just to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse while running Continuum via Miracast. That way I can just use a wall charger to keep the phone juiced up while using Continuum.
