Cortana...how do I get it to work?

Cortana......how to get it to work. seem to be messing up the settings i.e. speech etc

I can get so far and then no more. its the settings which seem to trip me up. I am a UK citizen but I feel reading the instructions that I should enter US for speech and all the other settings.

Yes. I'm not from US but I got my Cortana working by stitching some of my settings. Region set to US, speech is set to English (United States), Region Format set to "match phone language" and I also set English (US) as my default in Speech Language. Reboot my phone and viola! I got Cortana.
