DVP8 notifications..

I just got this tablet and really like it but for some reason, when the screen is off I don't seem to get any email notifications at all. When the screen is on, I hear the usual noise and see the banner on the top right but when the screen is off, nothing.
This leads me to beleive that :
1) the wifi is switching off when the screen is off or
2) The DVP8 doesn't do email notifications (or any notifications) when the screen is off.

I have "as mail arrives" set in the Mail app so the mail should be getting pushed to the DVP8.

Can anyone suggest anything please..

Just an update.
I ping'd my tablets IP address and a couple of minutes after the screen goes off, it stops responding to the ping.
How do I keep the wifi adaptor from sleeping?

I don't think the mail app has sound notifications. It does download emails in the background while locked though.

Settings > change pc settings > search and apps > notifications. There you can select whether to play sounds and which apps should show notifications.

I do hear sounds even when the screen is off.

Im using an Asus T100, but I expect the settings should be the same across Windows 8.1 devices.

The mail app does have sounds. You can change the sound in the Control Panel--> Sounds. I'm a little of a nerd and have mine set to the Star Trek doorbell sound.
