Laurie, One other thought on the C8 and its demise. Is there a way Celio can offer a reasonably priced upgrade to make it compatible with the C8N? What I'm thinking is a swapping of the main circuit board to the one on the C7 assuming that it'll drive the C8's screen. Or some other technically feasible option that your engineers devise.
    I'd second that.

No, that link is for the special 1.5.0.286 driver that works on the C8. The regular set of 1.5.0.286 drivers for either the C7 or C8N are at: http://www.celiocorp.com/install
Then I must be blind. No problems finding the RFP file. But where is the RFF link?

The the current driver messes with the volume control on the Tilt2 (Touch Pro 2), but otherwise the special driver does make the C8 work with it and it still works with my Tilt.

Kraski the firmwar update is built into the driver. Just load it on a WM6 6.1 device and then connect to the Redfly

The firmware update is baked into the RFP file and the process is seamless (or it was for me). Took 2 seconds for the phone to connect, tell me the RF needed a firmware update, and then it just took care of it. Much better than the old system of FW updates.

Definitely. I'll play tonight, after work.

How does it mess with the volume? Also, the Tilt 2 came with WM 6.5 & my Redfly is a C8N. Sounds like there are still issues. Laurie? Colin?

Celio Corp is willing to offer C8 customers a discount on an upgrade to a new REDFLY if they are interested. Just send me or Colin(cjk) a private message and we can work out the details.

However, I think it is pertinent to this discussion to point out that we ARE going to continue adding new models and features to our product line. We constantly get requests for things like touch screens, bigger form factors and Wi-Fi support-not to mention daily requests to support every one of the 9 different mobile operating systems out on the market today. To do that we would have to build new hardware obviously. The C8 model may have been the first model we released, but it won't be the last.

Buying technology is always a tricky thing--it rarely stays still for very long. The important thing to look at is this: does this product help me today and how much am I willing to pay for that benefit? Our hope is that an instant-on, lightweight, long battery-life device that has no additional costs for a data plan, software or maintenance but that lets you leverage the power of your existing smartphone is a valuable proposition.

We are trying hard to balance good business decisions with sincere customer support and we are sorry if we have made some of you angry. While I understand that not everyone here shares this belief, Celio does value its customers and hopes that they will continue to come along with us as we progress.

    Thanks,
    Laurie

Now to kraski's question - yes! - there are still issues. That is why we have not released 6.5 support yet and you see no mention of it on our website. I just shared with the forum users here that it is "mostly" there. At lest, the firmware side of the equation is in, and if you hook up a 6.5 phone to the REDFLY with 1.5.0.266 firmware or later, then it will talk to the phone and mostly work. A couple more weeks for us to work out some more of the kinks and there will be a new build for that.

    Thanks,
    Laurie

OK. That clarifies it. If it's really only going to be a couple of weeks, I can wait a little longer. Thanks, Laurie.

Kraski and anyone else listening I loaded the special driver on my tilt and upgraded the firmware on the C8. Loaded the new regular driver on the tilt2 and when I try to adjust the volume via the rocker switch the screen flakes out and won't adjust. I had to go in to settings and set the volume that way. When I uninstalled the driver everything was fine.

Thanks, but I don't want to go through this again next year.

Laurie, no one buys technology like that. And you don't think they do. You're entire marketing strategy is based on TCO, and that's about long-term, on-going costs. When smart people buy technology, they look at the cost over the long term, and a big factor in that is: when will this product cease to be supported?

Our hope is that an instant-on, lightweight, long battery-life device that has no additional costs for a data plan, software or maintenance but that lets you leverage the power of your existing smartphone is a valuable proposition.
Keep on hoping. But hope won't pay the bills. You compete with netbooks, and netbooks are moving.

Netbooks are as light, or in some cases lighter, than a RedFly. Even the heaviest netbooks (or mini laptops) are only a few hundred grammes heavier.

When the RedFly was launched, netbooks only had a two or three hour battery life, but now a nine hour battery is common.

I'm aware that there might be "tethering" costs in the US, but here in Europe, data plans don't always distinguish (unless they're free, web-only data plans for non-business customers). A benefit that only applies in the US, and can disappear at the whim of the networks, is not a great thing to rely on. Tethering charges will disappear, pressure from a growing army of netbook owners will make that happen. It only takes one network, and the others will fall like dominoes.

As netbooks become powerful enough to replace laptops/desktops, the "extra software maintenance" argument disappears.

So, you're left with: being cheap. My ThinkPad R40 still gets software updates from Lenovo, after five years. You've withdrawn support for my C8 less than twelve months after I bought it. A netbook might cost twice as much as a RedFly, but if I get twice the lifespan from it, I'm quids-in.

I think you've killed your business. My advice: stop believing your own marketing, and take a hard, critical look at your product's USPs.

I am also have the volume issue on a Sprint TP with a 6.5 rom. Seems like something is fighting when I press the hardware volume buttons. (the volume screen pops up/disappears/pops up over and over. )

To clarify this happens when not connected to the Redfly (although it may happen then, I dont know).

Other than this the new driver is working awesome on my C8.

I'm surprised no one else commented on the seemingly snarky comment. Not to say it wasn't justified, but figured I'd point it out.

Anyways, I just would like to know the current state of the Android driver (or if one is even being worked on). Come December I'll be jumping to that platform after an extremely disappointing run with Windows Mobile...or more specifically my Touch Pro. And I don't want to seem like one of these impatient, angry people hellbent on an answer. While I understand their frustration about drivers/supported devices, I don't care cuz my RF will be going to my dad in the meantime since he recently entered the world of smartphones by getting a BB. I'm just curious if I'll get it back to use with my Sprint Hero or Moment before another year has passed and I switch to another phone.

And related to the volume issue, I have it with the stock 6.1 ROM on my TP. I didn't even associate with the RF drivers, though, although I should've considering they've resulted in other problems for me in the past. However I found the perfect solution...put the speakerphone on and turn the phone so the screen faces away. An added benefit is your face won't mess with the touchscreen. Not to say I don't love it when my phone launches the internet, starts a text, loads a saved chess game, and dials one of my clients while I'm talking to my wife. God, I hate this phone.

Same exact problem with my ATT Tilt2. I think I will miss my redfly.

    Hitch and Velvis,

The Tilt 2 volume issue is a known bug and our developers are working to get it resolved. I just wanted to acknowledge what you have been seeing.
