And on my Lumia 810 after GDR3 there was no new delete temp files function in phone storage,
I guess I can count myself lucky, that new function probably takes up a bit of "other"
but since it doesn't work anyway  but it's good to know that it's as useless as "clear" temporary files
is after Storage Check was installed with Amber/GDR2 at least MS/Nokia is consistent in providing "solutions" that do 0.

PB_H - you click onto where it says phone, within phone storage, then that takes you to a breakdown, and then you click through each of the other subheadings

Ditto. Mine also showed 450+Mb of temp giles and I tried to clear it and it took forever but only got rid of around 100mb of stuff. Nice for them to add new stuff, but not so great when they don't work 100% properly

I'm not surprised with the discrepancy between MS and Nokia in regards to the temp file size. Most likely MS bundled everything together again :p lol. Have you guys tried deleting the ie history via ie as well? I don't have update 3 installed to check, I found that the Nokia's storage app currently does not delete ie history looks like the ie cache is locked - as you can see below: Nokia storage app does not clean ie temp files (L920 with Amber).

Edit: Tried clearing off the 29 mb but it doesnot go, not a big deal but the lowest I have had it is 5mb.

Two possibilities

1) Some of it is part of the IE temporary files and clearing that through the IE settings will delete it

or

2) It's still a work in progress feature which will be polished up for the official release. Remember this is a preview/beta so not everything will work 100%.

I pressed delete, then left the app. Came back a day later, and it had shrunk by 200MB. It's not kidding when it says a background process and that it might take awhile. ;)

Results may vary of course, but don't sit around waiting for it to delete. Press delete, let the OS do its thing and see where it gets you.

Interesting as I too was having absolutely no success in attempting to delete temp files from both 8.1 Storage feature or the Nokia Storage app...this was happening when I upgraded to GDR3 directing from GDR2....So I performed a 'hard reset' on my Lumia 920-ATT device.....and 'temp files' that were at 450MB......immediately went to 4.5 MB and after running both of the above features..

OS version: 8.0.10512.142
Firmware: 3046.0001.1326.0003

Thanks for that info. Suddenly my temp files went up to ~70mb on my 925 (GDR2/Amber) (I know, I know, nothing compared to what others here are struggling with) and after I deleted the browser history it went down to 13mb. Still not sure what the rest is but better than 70!

Read somewhere that if you change the year to 2014 and then run the GDR3 delete temp files option it does clear the data. I tried it on my 920 and then my 925, both times it worked. Make sure you change the date back to current date.

I think part of the temporary files has to do with caching SkyDrive photo uploads, emails and other such things. If you change the date, the system consider those files "old" and "unnecessary," so it tags them for deletion.

I have the same issue on my 920. Had >450MB on temporary files and couldn't delete it. Now I went to IE options and deleted the browsing history and the temporary files lowered to 174MB. IDK if it is possible to reach 0MB.

Try this
Goto Settings > Time+ Date and then change the year to 2014 or further and save it, now goto Storage Check and try to clear temporary files.

i hope that helps. Don't forget to change your date back to current.

Yup, that's because a lot of the cached files are kept for a designated amount of time, so changing the date basically flags the OS that those files are old and ready for deletion.

I've got a Nokia 1520. I had 7.5g sitting in temporary that I couldn't get rid of - until I changed the phone date to 2015 (someone in this thread suggested it). Worked perfect. I don't know for 100% certain that changing the date actually made it work - but it's finally deleted.
