I really believe that the windows phone OS deserves a better marketshare than it currently has !!
Not starting an android vs wp war ,But honestly windows phone has all essential apps, consistently smoother on all types devices, regular updates.

Absolutely, as Android losing it's share from 80% to 85%.

And WP is gaining from 3.4% to 2.5%.

If WP goes with this pace it will definitely beat Android in next 2 years.

It's very simple really. Microsoft got into the game, too late and too ignorant. They are only starting to change now and when I say change, I mean SLOWLY change the way they look at things. Just look at their Lumia phones, almost EVERY ONE of them after the Lumia 920 had had some caveats or problems. For example, my Lumia 1520 has the touch/swipe issue and nothing can be done about it sadly (even with the screen pressing). A big flaw for a premium device. You simply don't see this on Android phones (even the behemoth Note 3 doesn't experience this problem).

Lack of apps and lack of novelties are also pulling WP behind. I like Windows Phone with its simplicity and ease of access (Live Tiles being the main attraction). However, the software just doesn't live up to the simplicity it offers. Like a lot of the other users on this forum have said, Microsoft needs a game changer and from what I can see, usability is the way to go. Can you imagine having a phone that will automatically update your settings by understanding your preference?

To be fair, the Note 3 isn't a behemoth compared to the 1520, what with it being smaller than the 1520. ;) To be really fair, the Mega 6.3 is larger than the 1520 and it also doesn't have the touch/swipe issue.

While being optimistic is a good thing, most experts predict that Windows Phone could one day become a very solid third place operating system, it won't go above iOS and certainly not Android for the foreseeable future.

I'm not trying to start a war but Windows Phone is still pretty behind iOS and Android in one way or the other.

While I think it's short sighted to say that something will never happen, I'd also like to go on record and say that I will pay the OP $500 if it goes above 60%

[I apologize for going a bit OT]

Haha colinkiama I've been meaning to try Sailfish on my Nexus, but I don't want to go through the hassle of rooting and then unrooting my device.

But Sailfish seems like a really good OS.

    [OT end]

Microsoft talked to the developers behind Cyanogenmod, what if they purchase the Cyanogenmod Installer and use it for flashing Windows Phone onto Android devices? That would be a pretty awesome idea and people could try out Windows Phone without paying for a device.
Most androids nowadays use snapdragon. But it might look ridiculous on some phones. Imagine 8.1 on a moto g...

I get in these marketshare discussions all the time.

Marketshare is just a nice number that makes the writers all warm and fuzzy while they create their click-bait articles.

The number you want is profitable marketshare.

    Just look at the market.

Samsung has good profitable marketshare with Android.
    The others do not
Apple has lower overall marketshare, but very high profitable marketshare.

Now MS has to figure how to get profitable marketshare and that is a tougher nut to crack. The profits are in the middle to upper end of the phones. Those real budget phones are nice for the consumer in many ways, but not good for the mfg. And MS needs to address the apps issue.

I think that the apps available overall are mostly fine, but some holes exist in the coverage. So MS should either fill those gaps themselves, or seed some money to the developer community for them to do it. Frankly I think MS has to prime the pump hard themselves.
