Windows 7 startup repair tool issues

Desktop HP 500f with Windows 7 and 1 TB Harddrive launched Recovery Manager on startup. It recommended running Startup Repair Tool. Have been running this tool for 24 hours plus. Only screen available is the HP Recovery Manager Screen with no indication of progress i.e. no Windows Startup Repair Window. When I reselect Start Up repair from this HP screen , it says it is already running.
How can I determine if the Startup Repair Tool is actually running and if it is progressing or just stuck.

Recommendations for next steps?

I did create a System Repair Disk when computer was new.

Fortunately all of my data is backed up to an external USB Seagate back up drive.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Re: Windows 7 startup repair tool issues

Not even an HP will take 24 hours plus to recover. She be borked.

Open the CD/DVD tray...

Force shut down by holding power button.

Insert Recovery Disk 1 into the tray and close it.

Boot the machine, and if needed, enter BIOS and make CD/DVD first boot priority.

You're gonna have to start from scratch with this one.
