My HP250 laptop screen has the following screen defect (see image). I took the laptop apart to inspect the display connector and found no defect at that level. This leads me to believe that the defect lies within the screen itself. This defect has been progressing at a slow rate (number of vertical white lines increasing).

The laptop has never been subjected to any shock (sudden acceleration/deceleration) or torsional forces. I'm wondering if it could be caused by temperature and/or humidity (I live in the tropics where highs are in the range of 33C to 38C). Can anyone think of what might be casuing this screen defect? Thanks everyone

try to look for local laptop repair technicians, they usually have spares that they can use or they even know how to repair. but make sure to find one you can trust

Yeah, luckily there's a HP Service Center in my town that I can go to for a new screen. But what bothers me is not knowing what caused this problem and not knowing how to fix it (assuming its a fixable thing). Do you think its a user-fixable component?

components fail over time, some faster than others. It might have been defective from the beginning and worked until it started completely breaking down. Or it could have been an accident with the laptop that became noticeable recently

I think its just poor design/production of the model.

Now it's mouse-clicking ability (via left-click button and touch-pad-to-click) has also degraded gradually to the point where it no longer works. Now I either use numeric keypad in mouse-mode or USB-connected mouse. I'm convinced that the HP250 laptop is a cheap and unreliable model with high hardware failure rates and sluggish performance.

I remember once having a HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop which lasted a little over 6 years with no part failing during the period before it's motherboard succumbed to ageing and warned (aurally) of its impending demise (which came at last).

I had the dv9000 series, great machine, a lot of things failed after 3 years but we pushed it to 6 years before it failed completely

sound failed, mic failed, webcam, dvd drive, 2 USB ports out of 4, hinges broke one after the other (got replacements), battery died (got a new one), caps lock light failed, wifi failed (at which point I got a new laptop) and then the whole thing failed. 22nd January 2009 up to March 2016

the first failures up to USB all happened around the same time. I guess the motherboard failed somehow. The others were slow developments. It was an amazing laptop, HP dv9723ca, 17.3 inch screen, great keyboard with numeric too, remote for presentations (that really used to wow people), amazing screen in 16:10 ratio
