Same here. Aiming for 4790K and RX 480.

@Daniel Gilbert

My old man just got the RX480 (MSI) I'm a fan of MSI but I'm not too fond of AMD.

Nice

You wanted 8x8GB??? Oh my.. Lol.

I think the max of my RAM I used is probably around 90%.... so I need MORE, lol.

AND I had my RAM for only a few months... maybe around September or November, so fairly new.

I'd probably use more of it if I had more and when I start using premiere more, I'm gonna want more.

Cool !

I am looking forward to get either the Sapphire Nitro or the Powercolor Red Devil or the MSI Twin Frozr version.

This MSI one in the picture looks like a reference model with tweaked clocks.

Try AMD you will love it !

I have 16gb of DDR3, currently 2x8gb, would go to 32gb except my CPU cooler is obstructing one slot.

16gb currently is plenty for desktop use. Few programs will take advantage of more ram. My attitude is simple; why not? I'd have enough to fiddle around with a ram drive then.

Think I might need another 8gig in my recently purchased notebook.

Looks like it will drain about 57 us dollars out of my wallet to get to 16 gig.
Heck I'm still not sure what RAM actually does 🤓

Heck I'm still not sure what RAM actually does ??????

Basically it's a buffer for storing information in order to help reduce bottlenecks.

SSD's/HDD's are the solution to very large storage, but they're comparatively slow to RAM. Ram is much faster, so information that will need to be processed, or if space permits, might be processed, gets stored there.

The advantage of more ram, to a point is that your PC will basically be able to bite off more to chew at a time, without having to go back to the SSD/HDD for more data. Going to the HDD/SSD is slow by comparison.

I have several computers

Desktop: has 2x 16GB = 32 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000. This is my VR build so I wanted to make sure that it more then enough RAM so i could run VR via my HTC Vive at a min of 2160*1200 @ 90hz and on my monitor 3840X2160 @ 60hz. Next purchase will be a 4k monitor that runs at 120hz plus (the new ROG Predators look absolutely stunning).

Its also my backup work machine for running ultra big chunky datasets (like 1GB plus with 12-15 calculations on 5-10 million values)

Laptop 1 - Dell E7470: Just upgraded to 2x 8GB = 16 GB Kingston DDR4-2400. I extract lots of data from production servers using SQL so yeah -Xmx8096 baby!

Laptop 2 - HP Omen ax033TX with 8GB of DDR4 something. Just got this machine and am quite impressed with its performance. Not entirely sure i'll be running much on it that even needs 8GB.

I currently have 16 GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 in my gaming PC. Got it as a pair. I have the same set in my Linux PC, and I'm thinking of cutting that down to a pair of 4, and moving the other 16 to my gaming PC.

8Gb is the most I've ever had in a computer, I usually get by with 4GB and that's while I'm editing photos.

I don't know, I've never kept more than a few web pages open at once and I close most programs when I'm done using them, a lot of running tasks feel like unnecessary clutter.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I have 14g in my PC, it came with 2g in one slot, the shop I bought the rest from only had three 4g's so I stuck them in hence the slightly odd arrangement.

Not too long ago I got an older MacBook on eBay and it came with 16 GB RAM, a nice step up from before but still I'll be hard pressed to use it all - even when I fire up a VM.

Really depends on usage. On my Surface 3 there is 4GB and it can handle light productivity, multimedia and retro gaming. My main rigs have 8 right now, but I only go to 1080p gaming.

I have 4x2GB sticks (8GB) of DDR2 ECC Ram. It can run 16GB but I have not seen the need yet for what I do.

The system I have is older server grade hardware running W10 Pro 64 bit. It is an older Sun Microsystems Ultra 24 with an Intel x38 chipset board. Has lots of cool features like Intel RAID and a Sun storage backplane for 4 drives which includes SAS capability (which I will never need). It is running a version of American Megatrends bios which Sun did some cool stuff with that for its time is really cool work with even now.

I have two sets of Corsair - Dominator Platinum 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3466 Memory for a total of 128 GB. Why? I don't know. It was back when I built a gaming PC and it was before the price of RAM went sky high. The only reason I went with 128 GB is because that would max out my motherboard and I had been working a LOT of overtime and had the money to spend. That was my motivation for that build - max out the entire thing.

I'm ashamed to admit that the only games I've played lately is solitaire and Mahjong Tiles. Hey, I've been busy with work. Maybe when I retire I can start playing other games. :)
