I have an old CPU case that I'd like to use as an external DVD drive case.

I removed the motherboard from an old tower case, and installed two SATA DVD-RW drives and hooked them to the power supply, however when I turn on power, the drives don't power up.

How do I get power to the drives without using a motherboard?

Hi, the drives should power up without the motherboard.
Is the power supply fan spinning?
If so, have you tried powering the SATA DVD-RW drives individually?
If you have a multimeter, you could check the voltage from the power connectors going to the drives. They should be 12V.

Thanks. No the power supply fan isn't spinning, although I have a green power light on. I'm thinking that I need the motherboard board. If so, I will just get a SATA power extension cable and run power off of my primary system.
