Any news on 920 V2.0?

Hi guys, so in the past few months we've slowly seen Nokia fill out all the niches they can - Verizon 920, thin 920, camera 920, and now huge next-gen phablet. This is great for the ecosystem and for WP8 in general but now that we're coming up on the 920's 1st birthday, when can we expect to see news start leaking about the next work-horse global flagship from Nokia?

Everyone is talking about the 929 being a shrunk-down version of the 1520, but what if (weirdly) this was just the local carrier-specific version of the next flagship leaking before the global version does? 5" screen, 1080P, Snapdragon 6/800. . .these are all things we can expect, right? Would love to see a 4.7-5.0" screen in the same real estate as the 920, OR a smaller phone sticking to 4.5".

If we're not seeing it at Nokia World on Oct. 22, when do we see the next 920 coming out?

All speculation naturally being build on rumors, but as there's absolutely no talk or rumors about smaller flagship, I would not expect it anytime soon.
Lumias are most of all selling in Asia, Europe and South America.
With Lumia 1520 they seem to be concenrating firstly to world largest smartphone market, China and strong markets to them, like Indonesia, India, Thailand. All markets where phablets rule.

That said, Lumia 929 is a very weird one at that. It seems a bit odd to make such big changes for Lumia for one country and one carrier. Only thing really connecting it to Lumia 1520 is the camera that could be the exact same 20MP sensor on both phones.

Yes, next gen x3x devices are not a matter of hardware, they are about software and we are only going to see them when WP8.1 arrives early next year. BUT there is something I find really weird. The Lumia 2520 is going to be a W8.1 device not W8, so according to Nokia it should be considered a next gen device, therefore it should be called Lumia 2530.

It's been designed as an 8.1 device but RT 8.1 isn't being released until new year with WP8.1 (some people think they might get joined at the hip) so when they show it off it will still be basic RT... Even surface 2 isn't on 8.1 yet.... that's why I GUESS that its staying 2520... its also why I think the 929 is there as well, its up from the 928 but still not a true next gen...
This is like gen 2.9... all the power and hardware just need the software.... and it is a big difference as WP is smooth as on an S4, an SD800 will make WP fly out into space... no to mention any apps on android that are sluggish will race on WP...
but yea
929 is gen 2.9
1520 is gen 2.9
2520 is gen 2 just getting shown off with gen 1 software...

930 will be spring I say... mainly because 925 and 1020 are new enough to keep up till then...
830 is hard as its due an update but with 8.1 still a bit off I not sure...

as for 730,630 and 530 i'd say spring as well with the 930 as the 930 wont be flagship any more (not unless they are keeping 4 flagship phones 920-5/1020/929/1520 (quite a good idea actually as if one isn't good for someone another will be rather than another OEM)) the 930 could just be a version of 929 cutting it to 3 flagships...

I wouldn't be surprised if the 930 is similar to the 929 or even the 925. 4.7-5inches 1080p Quad core 20mp camera. That would be a sweet flagship. I agree that it would be smart to release in conjuction with WP 8.1. Marketing better be freaking good! And Cortana better make siri look like she has the intelligence of a Valley Girl.

Good post skunk, thanks. It makes sense that x3x would wait for 8.1, just hard to believe Microsoft has again surrendered ground by being so behind the rest of the industry. 1.5 years between tech iterations for your accessible flagship is an incredible amount of time, in the wrong way. Guess it gives me longer to appreciate my cyan baby.

It is quite long indeed, even though they are next gen in everything but name and OS (the update will fix that) 6" is very big for a lot of people and the 929 is carrier specific (as it stands). Microsoft did say they were enabling hardware with the first round of GDRs and will follow with feature updates... hopefully this will be brought down to a year, whether the 8.1 GDRs will be more feature or more hardware depends on Qualcomm and how much work they are putting into the current batch of GDRs... for instance with Nokia under the wing they should make WP work flawlessly up to 100Mp just as insurance... Microsoft needs to get tighter with hardware venders so their software pre-empts upcoming hardware, or at lest prepares the OS for an easy update

Yeah, that's why I wondered specifically about the 930 (or whatever the 920 v2 will be) - I'm super excited by the possibilities shown in the 1520, I (and the majority of smartphone users) are just gonna buy something that's more pocketable. Wouldn't even mind them staying 720P, though I'm sure they won't.

This is my major concern with Windows Phone right now. The 920 (along with the 925, 928, and 1020) runs on a SoC from early-2012, the one put inside the Galaxy S III. People like to say "specs aren't everything," but in this instance, the Snapdragon 600 and 800 SoCs likely bench around twice what the MSM8960 does. That we're looking at ONLY getting the extra-large devices (5" 929 and 6" 1520) is rather disappointing, because people who are nearing upgrades form their two-year contracts with the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III will not necessaryily have any incentive to switch to Windows Phone if the 929 and 1520 are all we see for the next 6 months.

But again, what people forget that Lumias don't actually sell in North America. Lumia 920 was very much spec wise there with the top phones.

Nokia's sell especially well in Asia, in many countries where over 30% of all smartphones are phablets and they are the main contributor of new smartphone sales. Nokia is capturing market share there, not in North America. So naturally it makes sense to focus to those markets.
