Wow that sucks :/ Maybe thats why the MS fb app cannot show notifications in time?
Anyways, if you can make it better than the ms fb app somehow then why not! :) we r with u

Microsoft and Facebook are working together for the current WP8 app. Their notifications are by push so they're relatively instant. If you can't get notifications on time there's some other issue going on.

Eventually you're going to develop this application?

Would also be interested in helping with spreading the word or helping to code it - not worked with the Facebook API set yet, but I imagine it can't be too bad.

I'm not an FB power user, so I wouldn't have ah issue with delayed notifications personally - especially since FB Messenger is a standalone app (not that I use it much either though)

Update: Feel free to reach out to Facebook, Microsoft, Joe Belfiore, or whoever you feel needs to see this and show them this design concept. Hopefully with enough eyes on this thing, we can get some progress on our FB app.

Also, here is the project files for my design concept app if devs out there want to deploy it on their phones and check it out. Keep in mind it's not a fully functioning app and it's just to show off the UI.

It requires Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 and WP8.1 since it's a WinRT app.

Update 2: A number of people are requesting that I actually develop a functioning app out of this concept. While I look into how much work a project like this requires, please let me know whether you personally would use a Facebook app without instant push notification. This is to say that it will have the same delayed notifications (of about 15 or so minutes) as 6Snap or 6Tag.

Hi everyone. There are some really beautiful apps on Windows Phone and then there are some really disappointing looking ones. One of the apps that has really irked me is the Facebook app. I'm a dev that focuses largely on attractive UX and proper usage of WP's Modern design language. I'd like to share what I've come up as what I believe to be a good compromise between Facebook's design language (to keep apps consistent between platforms) and Windows Phone's Modern design language (to give it a unique personality on this platform.) Let me know what you guys think.

While looking at this, I'd like to provide a few bits of information:

- The page title is the same formatting as (position, capitalization, etc) as system apps like messaging, mail, any pivots, etc to keep a consistent feel with the OS.

- The bar with the four buttons are analogous to iOS' bottom bar in that it switches views but here, the look is drawn from the buttons in the Action Center. Again, this is to give it a WP feel.

- Tapping on one of the four buttons switches to the appropriate view. I've also changed the badges from the red iOS-like ones to a more WP live tile-like ones as seen with the "notifications" button. I prefer it this way, but Facebook can stick with the red round badge for notification count just as easily. With the "news feed" one, a star is shown when there are new stories.

- The main two colors are the standard FB blue, and the FB blue accent that's used in the Windows 8 app and iOS app to keep consistent with Facebook's designs. The grays are a mix of Facebook's and the OS' light theme grays.

- Much less chrome. Modern UI showcases content, not chrome so I've removed excess rectangles and boxes around news feed posts and let the typography and images shine through.

- WP apps usually have a consistent left and right margin. Notice how almost everything lines up the same distance away from the edge of the screen. This is subtle but gives it a clean and polished look.

If you guys really like this, feel free to pass along this screenshot to Facebook or Microsoft. Hopefully, it'll at least spur them to try a little harder on designing their WP app.

with wp 8.1 you can do real time notifications right?

No. Real time is only possible if I work with or for facebook and have access to their notification system. 8.1 reduces the background task interval from 30min to 15min. It's also possible to do work every minute but I don't know if I can call out to a web service doing that. Besides, that would drain the battery like crazy.

The UI looks out of the world. To be very frank with you the only two options I want in facebook app is "showing quality posts" (unlike how facebook for windows phone does) and "uploading photos for comments option". If you can provide these two features I bet your app will cross more hits than that of original facebook app.
*Good job* *waiting for the release*

Passed this along to @jdbpocketware since they already have a good facebook app, just lacking in the design category. They said they would look into it.
