Sounds good to me. Though to me, it's looking more and more like Microsoft is going to wait for Win10 to release a new flagship. That, and USB type C.

I should mention that I'm up for a phone upgrade in January, so I REALLY want a new phone to be coming out soon. But I'll hold out for a flagship and may even hold out until one comes with USB type C.

1830 is never coming. It was already confirmed in windows central blogs a long time before. It was just a rumour

What's funny is that if this were real, it would actually be terrible? Why? It's all but been confirmed, at this point, that a high-end Microsoft Lumia (with 10 on it) won't happen until mid-2015. If Microsoft launches a mid-2015 device with the Snapdragon 805, that's an utter joke. You'd be launching a flagship in Q2/3 2015 with a Q1 2014 SoC. You'd be putting out a device in mid-2015 that runs the silicon of an early-2014 Galaxy S5.

Basically, if these specs are true, and the expect timeline is also true, this would be another example of how Microsoft is a trash hardware OEM for mobile, and it would make me VERY disappointed to watch a year-old, 32-bit, quadcore SoC end up in their flagship device, while every other OEM went to the 64-bit, hexacore and octacore 808/810 chips.

A phone with these specs (minus GG4) should have been out with the Lumia 830. Instead, this set of specs is a total turd to even bother with, because the tech's almost a year old, and it would be a drag on long-term performance, if it was the head of Windows 10's re-re-launch (because re-launching as WP8 wasn't enough of a traction-killing reboot).

Sorry to sound so down, but I have such little faith in Microsoft as an OEM right now that this will probably be a $250 flagship released next summer on T-Mobile only or something stupid.

I think he was being sarcastic.... meh who knows with how people write these days.

As for the specs of this supposed Lumia 940, why not use a SnapDragon 810? I was hoping for a big intro to Windows 10 with a 64-bit processing CPU even if it only has 3 GB of RAM :p

805 sounds too much(atleast for WP), I'm starting to think that it might have 801. Even ram might be 2gb

Wow you really could not be more wrong. I think you're confusing the Snapdragon 805 with the 801. The galaxy s5 has an 801. The 805 is an extremely current processor and still will be in April/May. There are not many phones that currently have the 805; one I can think of is the Note 4 which ws just released. Stop complaining. The 805 is/will be a stellar processor.

Actually, the 805 is the 801 with a better GPU. Qualcomm has said themselves that OEMS were expected use one or the other, rather than upgrading sequentially.

805 is based on current nm tech. 810/808 should die shrink.

805 is 32-bit. 808/810 will be 64-bit. Before anyone bellows about RAM, this also allows them to run the new ARM instruction set, which speeds up existing 32-bit apps by up to 30% with no changes to the apps or the processor - so it's a huge benefit to both apps and phone makers.

My 920 melted yesterday which leaves me in a total dilemma - get something that is outdated already (any current WP) or try and limp by with my L900 (WP7 has not aged well, let me tell ya) for another 6 months. I'm so disappointed that there's nothing price appropriate and exciting out there for WP8.1 right now. . .we were all rooting for ya, Microsoft.

Get a cheap 635 or something. That's what I did and I'm confident it will tide me over until April or so. That or the M8 if you want to go HTC.

Absolutely not the case.

AnandTech | Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Performance Preview

The 805 is a GPU-boosted 801, is what reviews (such as AT's) seem to say. They're still using the same instruction set and architecture, basically with the 450 cores just being faster 400 cores. It's a 32-bit SoC, the last of its kind. The 808 and 810 will bring 64-bit instruction sets, and the CPU cores will likely not age well, as developers start going the 64-bit route for applications long-term. It's an incremental bump that Anandtech describe as being an 801 used to power displays over 1080p, basically. It's not the SoC of the future, and it's not something I'd want running on a Windows 10 flagship. Be the time Windows 10 is out, the 808 (and maybe a 64-bit quad?) will be the budget chips, and they'll probably kick the 805's CPU to the curb.

The Galaxy S5's base model has the 801, but there is at least one model packing the 805 (Korea's LTE-A model, according to Wikipedia), and the Note 4 is running the 805 as well. The 805 is seriously the 801 for 2K and 4K devices, and the 801 is the go-to chip for 2014. You will not see the 805 in the next wave of Android flagships, like the S6 or One (M9) or the G4. Letting Microsoft use that on their mid-2015 flagship (which would lag in the market behind the Android releases, mind you) would be a travesty that could eternally peg Microsoft as a budget OEM.

How does this sound?

5? 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 4
◾ 2.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor
◾3 GB of RAM
◾PureView camera generation with 24 MP resolution, capable of 4K video recording with 60fps
◾5 MP front- facing camera l shooter with 1080p video.
◾137 x 71 x 8.9mm, weighing 149 grams
◾ Windows Phone 10

Gorilla Glass 4 announced, adds a smidgen of credibility to Lumia 940 rumour

How does confirmation of something that was already known to exist and would move from development to production (Gorilla Glass 4) confirm the existence of something that is nothing more than a rumor? It is the equivalent of saying the existence of stealth technology confirms that space aliens work with the defense industry. One means absolutely nothing with respect to the other.

I had some thoughts about 1030...
here's what I thought:

display and hardware like that currently high end generation, since Lumia 1020 is just an evolution of 920 (with the camera and memory increased due to the cam spec)

Display 5 (full hd... more than that is not necessary... just waste of battery)
- 3000mAh
- 41MP PureView 6/7 lenses Rear camera
- no idea abtou Front-Facing Camera
- 3 GB RAM
- 32 GB internal memory, external storage up to 128GB
- same spec of 930 with more GHz and own processor for Image like the 808 once had
- better speaker
- same or better idea about the microphone on 930
- water proof - that would be killer

external things like the camera grip we had on 1020

- option to exchange lenses or ND filters from the camera grip
- more battery
- option to an external xenon flash (like if you were using an dslr :p) common... microsoft just closed a deal with cannon

and another things that I cant think right now :p

If I were you I would pick up a 100$ 635 to tide you over until you can get what you want. Seems it would be better than the 900.

Everything sounds good but this. The 930 runs a late-2013 SoC (Snapdragon 800), basically the bare-minimum that is acceptable for a 2014 release. They absolutely should have the 810 in a 1030, which shouldn't need a secondary imaging chip.

All I know is that I have been steady moving up in screen size since my HTC TyTn. 1520 has ruined me, can't go back down to a 5" phone.
