I did a bios upgrade and it failed. Now my Mainboard is dead and my pc is constantly having a boot error. (the harddisk doesn't read or write). Will a new mainboard solve this?

Windows would already be activated on your Hard drive. It will only need to install the new drivers for your motherboard. Unless you buy the exact motherboard.

Can you place the exact error you are getting?

It could just be that your bios reset and the configurations changed so it can't load the hdd. Eg. if you were in raid setup before and now it switched to Sata, the hard drive would not boot.

Just from what you've said, I would be inclined to say the answer is yes. (I'd probably do that myself)

depends I guess, I can't say for sure. If nobody here knows for sure, I'd try an MS forum or something more heavy duty PC-oriented.

I isn't going To Be the exact same motherboard. They don't sell it in my country. But the new one should work perfectly with my current hardware (CPU,gpu, ram)
It doesn't give an error code because the screen stays black. But I turn on my computer and the bios peeps ok, I hear the heads of the drive moving back and forth. I turn on my screen and it goes into stand-by. That's all it does

have you tried removing the bios battery?

as well as reseating the memory and your video card, if applicable

Doeds that matter if the bios has been removed and the new one hasn't been completely flashed?

In this case, it does not matter.

Do you see ANYTHING at all on the screen after pressing the power button?

A new motherboard for the computer raises a real chance that Windows will need to be reactivated. The reason is that you've already mentioned that you can't get an exact replacement. The new motherboard is likely to have different components and therefore could trip the "if a certain number of PC components change, reactivate windows" check. No big deal. You may have to call MS for help, but as long as your copy of Windows is legit, you won't have any problems beyond some time spent either online or on a phone.
