What if there were a new OEM that only made Windows Phone ... Would it matter to Windows Phone consumers or, for that matter, Microsoft Store sales staff? Do you think the company could succeed assuming solid hardware? Just curious of what people think...

Start up OEM in the phone game is hard. Most are starting cheap and using White Label devices. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-label_product So they end up with low end, cookie cutter stuff easily forgotten.

If a new player had guts, vision and money they might make a go of it. Something to stand out from the crowd. One or two models a year. Possibly it might get traction. No skimping on spec or quality though. Maybe not as elite as Vertu, but something along those lines. Distinctive styling and world class spec coupled with high end materials and construction.

Yikes! Who's going to pay $13.3K on a phone running Symbian Series 40 (which is the same OS as the Asha feature phones), or $5.6K on a phone running Android 4.2 Jellybean (too old to run many current Android apps)?

    Who knows...

Too bad Nokia was coerced away from manufacturing Windows based phones.
To me it's pretty evident that Nokia being out of the Microsoft Mobile game was/is a massive error on the corporate level.
I think Microsoft buying and trying to assimilate Nokia hardware has proven unsuccessful to date.

Seems sad that that many at the street level knew the Nokia buyout was not a good thing.
It's even sadder that Microsoft will toss the mistake by the wayside soon leaving the former Nokia name weakened and disgraced.

Those came later, though. The Lumia line predated the X line.

Did you look at Services? By pressing your Ruby Key (a real ruby, BTW) you gain access to an elite concierge service that will ease your jet-setting travel arrangements. Bored in Bonn? Touch the Ruby Key and your Live Human Being Personal Assistant will make all the arrangements for you to visit Cannes during the film festival. As a Vertu owner you will get automatic access to all the parties and private screenings while there. Your Vertu will identify you as someone and the gliterazzi will fawn upon you as they beg for you to finance their upcoming projects. When their cloying becomes wearisome, touch the Ruby Key and Vertu's Concierge will help rush you off to Rio for relaxation...

Try this one on for size. I'm sure the voice assistant is Robin Leach.

At $22 800, the new Vertu for Bentley edition is a true match for your Mulsanne Speed

You've got to admit that the Vertu brand of phones has some stunning design.

Throw out the Ruby Key and all the background support that entails. Use modern and attractive design, high end spec, materials and quality control. Very light firmware. Guaranteed update/upgrade support and with one or two nice high dollar models a year you could bring an upscale phone with an upscale price to Windows 10 Mobile and fill a niche. How many are clamoring for Flagships? Satisfy that sweet tooth and you would have loyal users. The low and mid range is covered umpteen times over. The paucity is at the highest end.
