Why didn't my genuine 'product key didn't work'?

Genuine 'product key didn't work'!

I am currently on build 10074 & trying to update to Win10 via USB.
The setup asks for Product Key. When I provide Genuine key pasted on back of my HP laptop (windows 7 pre-loaded), it says 'This product key didn't work'.

Did anybody encounter the same issue?

Reports are that Microsoft's activation servers are overloaded. Just keep trying, and if you actually have a good product key it should eventually activate. I did an upgrade install from 8.1, and it took a couple hours and a bunch of tries until it activated. Keep clicking the Activate button.

As per Microsoft, I will need to revert back to windows 7, then perform clean installation of windows 10. So much for being an 'Insider'.

I'll wait till they come up with something.
