Hi all. My beautiful lumia 620 died last week. It was getting slow/painful anyway but it's still sad.

I have an old iphone to use for the moment but am keen to get back into windows phone ASAP.

A year ago I was considering the 735. Didn't get it cause my phone still worked. Currently considering the 640 as well.

Or...could wait and buy a 950. Seems a bit big for me though and probably a little over budget. I dunno. I'll pay for a good phone if I think it's worth it but I'm usually fine with a nice mid range.

Anyone have an advice? Pros and cons for each device? Any rumours for new phones that might be a little smaller?

Thanks a heap

No midrange to low end phones are in the rumor mill under MS right now although some good buys I would say from least to greatest (features & overall quality) would be

*Lumia 640

*Lumia 640 XL

*Lumia 830

*Lumia 930/ICON

*Lumia 1520

* Lumia 950 or 950 xl

What phone would be the best for you greatly depends on

*Your Price Range
*Your Carrier
*Your preference for new or used

Answering these questions would greatly help in the determination of the best win phone out for you right now

Planning to buy new, and outright. So carrier isn't a problem. I'm in Australia so I'm not sure we have all of those phones readily available...would have to check.

As for price, probably between about $250 and $450 AUD. (Which according to exchange rates is around $180-320 U.S.)

With that price range you can purchase any of those devices I listed, except of course the 950 & 950 XL. Those two will surely be higher than $320 USD

the 640, 640 XL, and 830 are ask I believe still sold new. While the 1520 & 930 are EOL.

Personally I would go for either a 930 or 1520. They are the most high end Lumia devices out. Although since they are EOL, you won't find them brand new, you should still be able to find them mint or open box... Which is basically a new condition device but old aged

Wow so just looked online here - can buy the 930 new but it's the equivalent of like $450 USD.

Probably gonna pick between 830 and 640 then. There's a fair price gap so dunno which one I'll get. They seem to have fairly similar specs.

Don't be fooled. The 830 IS the superior device versus the 640..

830
-----
Better Camera (more megapixels, preview,OIS, Zeiss)
Higher Quality Build
Wireless Charging
Probably more stuff, but this is just off the top of my head...

The 830 is an affordable Flagship, and the 640 is just a budget phone

Coming from a 620, the 830 should be a very nice step up.

Adding to what bo_woods said, 16GB internal storage is double the 640. My backup phone has 8GB and it gets a bit cramped. I don't put Apps or Maps on SD as I want the speed from internal storage vs the card slot.

Better WiFi, 830 has channel "a" and 640 does not.

Also, that 830 camera is a top shelf shooter... Don't let the 10MP vs 8 fool you.

What about battery life? My 620 could last a full day at uni easily...a day and a half on lighter usage.

Apparently the 640 has astounding battery life but what about the 830?
