I liked WP because of the Joe Belfiore hype videos.
I love the intergration within the OS. The social feed/rooms etc.
The simplicity and smoothness of the UI/OS was amazing and the feel of a L920 made me think premium.
Cortana works amazingly well and syncs over to my W10 pc.
Live tiles customization was always fun for me to do and provided me with updates and a standout background image.
A dedicated camera button is hard to live without!

I fell in love with the UI of WP8/8.1 the first time I saw it, much like the time the original iPhone was revealed. Live tiles made notification centre feel clumsy and unnecessary. (Almost) Everything important was located on the bottom. The swipe gestures felt fast and intuitive. The UI was consistent to such a point that even 3rd party apps looked similar to native ones. One handed usability was the best I'd seen (till today). And the Lumia series had some pretty impressive apps.
In fact, WP has spoiled me to such a point that it's now unthinkable to consider anything else (maybe Ubuntu touch as a secondary device).

I Love windows.I always use windows PC and I love its UI.So I know where I am with wp which has similar UI. on other platforms i feel lost most of the time. the UI similarity across all the devices is the most greatest thing for me, the UI language and everything makes me feel at home whatever device I use. The apps I frequently use on PC look exactly the same on my phone so gives me the muscle memory to be much more faster in getting things done.

As for me, I came to Windows Phones "by chance". It all started around eight years ago, my grandfather gave me his O2 XDA II because it was bulky - naturally it was a Microsoft Pocket PC. After liking the computer-like interface (and how it was so different from those around me ), my next major phones all ran Windows Mobile: Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.5.3...and then came Windows Phone 7, 7.8, 8, 8.1... and finally now Windows 10 Mobile (build 10581). So technically, I didn't begin by "choosing" Windows Phone, but rather I remained with Windows Phones by choosing to, and here's why:

    1. At first, I liked the interface - back in O2 XDAII, the interface was more professional than the its contemporaries. I could also watch .mp4 videos/movies, while my "peers" wondered how;

    2. I liked to be "different" (stemming from #1) - of course this meant that I can't use my phone while in open public transportation, but that also meant I could focus more on "watching" and observing people around me ;

    3. I was never interested in moving over to a different platform - something which I reflected on, and was later justified given the level of security implemented in Windows Phone 8;

    4. The photos my Windows Pocket PC took before were better than those taken by most of its contemporaries (except Nokia smart phones which had Zeiss optics);

    5. Luckily, when Nokia started making Windows Phones, almost all Windows Phones I later owned were all "Nokia", which naturally had Zeiss optics - something I look for in a camera (even in DSLRs).

    6. I prefer the sleek design of the Windows Phones I owned. Of course, not all were as sleek, but in general the design has been consistent, at least for the higher-end phones.

The 920 blew everything away in lowlight (indoors or outdoors). I could amaze anyone with shooting macros in the garden when the sky was already dark.....
... and THAT flash assisted focusing... I still laugh at the reaction it got from everyone " They cheated and lied to us... we saw the flash"

I first saw windows phone way back during wp7 days. My prof had one. It wasn't even able to download maps in background. Then I was searching a phone for my mom and went to a store to check out different phones. Windows phone appealed to me the most on WP8. I just loved the graphical orientation of the OS. It was so smooth and begging me to use more. Built- in Office, I am a student so what better than MS office? I bought here a 520 so cant really comment on camera. And biggest of all assured updates to OS. My mom started with WP8 and I installed win 10 mobile onto her phone a couple of days ago( reverted back as it is still buggy). Easy to use with one hand, excellent quality phones (lumia, HTC, etc). Don't feel cheap at all. It makes me feel one of a kind with eye candy colours.

    Where do I begin?
Okay, so my first phone was a cheap phone just to get the feel of things in 2009. Second was a Nokia in 2010 which still works up to today, third was a Samsung in 2013 that I regretted buying a month afterwards.

My fourth and current phone is Nokia Lumia 1020. Why did I get it?

In Kenya the Nokia Here maps team organised a mapping competition for a period of 5 months. The prize was lumia 1020. How could I pass on an opportunity like that? 41MP camera?

So I participated with only 2 months left and I won. Came first with 18600 edits while the competition had 3000 edits or less. I was the clear winner, no confusion. Imagine my shock when Nokia East Africa gives me a 820. Reason being that was what Nokia Europe sent as the prize. There were no terms and conditions. I argued for a month or so but no budging. So I took the 820, took one look at it and sold it. I added more cash from my savings and bought Lumia 1020 at a good discount. That was in 2014

So reasons why I like windows phone?

    • Stable operating system
    • No hanging or freezing unless I super use word flow and that has happened 4 times only since I bought it
    • Amazing camera
    • Amazing photo taking abilities - 4second exposure, focusing etc
    • Manual camera settings
    • Great camera apps like refocus, cinemagraph, Lumia camera, Lumia creative studio, proshot, fantasia
    • Offline maps through Here maps
    • Word flow keyboard - one of the best features, can't live without it
    • Fast and fluid system
    • Brand loyalty - really like Nokia
    • Great hardware
    • Project my screen - that's a great feature especially for doing tutorials
    • Email clients, browser that can work with 2G network
    • I can change background and start screen the way I like
    • Numerous apps
    • Beautiful screen - no scratches yet
    • Great hardware design (for lumia 1020)
    • Backup of contacts, messages and app lists - really useful

With Windows Mobile 10 build 10581
    • Even better email
    • Great office
    • Tighter and better looking start screen, layout, fonts - everything looks better
    • Easy access to settings and toggles via action center
    • Feedback app
    • More control over settings and permissions
    • Latest OS

I wanted a change, and lower cost. I stick with it because of word flow, live tiles, file storage, pin docs to screen, speed, reliability

Very happy to stick on wp, especially with 10 round the corner.

As stated many times before, I had XP on my laptop and 6.5 on my HTC HD2, was in a bit of a lull tech wise, but kept on looking at my wife's WP with 7 on it, it was the design that got me.

I had already downloaded Ubuntu and Mint to the laptop and was ready to ditch MS out of my life, but the look of those tiles kept on tugging at me.

used blackberry (to this day i love the blackberry experience), iphone, and last android.. I wanted a phone that would just work without getting slow over time with good camera for a good value.

bought a lumia 525 for a cheap price and i was so amazed bu the build quality and smooth performance. only thing i didnt like was the battery life. After almost a year I bought a lumia 640 and happy with it!

love the simplicity. The UI is fluid and live tiles just gives more than you want.
Installed windows 10 but rolled back today due to poor battery life. but I already love windows 10 and waiting for the final release.

I chose windows phone because it is everything the others are NOT. it is that simple. the devices are better, the OS is better, the overall experience is better. I used every other system out there and windows phone is the best combination. Plus, you cannot beat the 1020s camera. Even to this day its still the best camera for photos in the mobile world.

    To be different ...
    - it's the middle ground - customizable & secure (not either / or)
    - bang for your buck - the cost of a well performing (not necessarily higher spec'd) device is more reasonable - got my RED Lumia 1520 for $425!
    - camera is great - since we always have our phones with us, no need for a point & shoot camera

Because for ~120 I can't find used phone that is decent, ok performing and non lagging, blocking, have decent battery life and etc. in Android department. I could buy some ancient iPhone 4s and magnifying glass or loupe for same price and carry external battery all the time, but that is too much to give off from my L735.

    1. low price
    2. works relatively fast
    3. no need for few GB of RAM memory to work normaly, even with 512 MB It works fine
    4. design on windows 10 mobile is special and wp8.1, there si no similar on market, Also I like phone design, It is almost unique.
    5. I love Cortana, OneNote and app integration with Cortana
    6. people around me doesn't know to use WP so no one is touching my phone
    7. I was always different and never mainstream, Lumia is more close to my personality, It is not so popular but It is good
    8. Battery life was good on WP8.1 and I hope so for w10m
    9. Speakres on Nokia/Microsoft are so strong, I have much stronger signal for sound then on other smartphones
    10. Great cameras even on low price range

ok, there is more but I remembered this 10 so far.

I had an iPhone back in 2013. I happened to lost it(!) and desided to buy a low end phone this time. I immediately kinda felt in love with the idea of windows phone.

I bought a 520 and after something like five months I replaced my 520 to 930 and now I'm waiting for my 950.

    Pros for me are:

    1. Simplicity and the idea of the OS
    2. Live Tiles
    3. The Camera (software & hardware)
    4. It's Windows
    5. Office

Now W10M is drawing me to Windows (I have no other Windows devices. Been using MacBook for years) which I find pretty uncommon.. :)

The 950 will be my first Windows Phone. I'm choosing WP because it's different than what I'm used to on my phone, but the same as what I'm used to on my PC. It just makes sense, and I feel like I probably should have been using one all along but I didn't have my attention drawn to Windows Phone until now.

Do yourself a favor and look at Sailfish before you decide. IMHO it is superior to Ubuntu Mobile, more gesture driven and closer to WP.

I chose for a couple of reasons:
    1. Windows - the ecosystem and integration was very compelling and still is since all my work is Microsoft based technologies
    2. Live Tiles - Love these and still do

I tried it for those reasons and to try something interesting and now I am hooked. Still very irritated at the missing banking apps which I used but not enough to leave the platform. I have been on the 920 for 3 years now and it still runs great! Can't wait for the 950!

    Enough to switch banks over?

I went from BoA to Ally and it has been great. Ally will even let you deposit on the web by uploading a check image via browser... The Ally App on WP has been awesome and includes mobile deposit, naturally.

My conversation with BoA was about the fact that I need mobile deposit. They insisted I could do everything in browser. However, when pushed they admitted that only business customers could deposit checks via browser.

Bye Bye BoA, Hello Ally. I do not miss having a physical location one bit. Ally service has been outstanding.

I haven't looked at Ally as an option but I haven't found as much need since I just work around it. Truthfully, I either use the Ipad at home or make my wife do the deposits. Not really a showstopper. I may at some point switch and glad to hear they are good to go.
