This is one of many "what if" posts I'll be making to just imagine how things would have been if certain scenarios had played out differently. Of course what is done is done and there's no changing the past. But imagining possibilities can be good for a thoughtful discussion

So here's the post for today.
What if Microsoft had not bought Nokia?

    • What would the situation today be like? .
    • What kind of devices would we have seen in the market today?
    • Would the pace of W10M development still have proceeded at the same rate?
    • Would the 950s still have come out?
    • Would developing countries like India and Brazil and many others still be getting the new devices unlike the situation today?
    • Would Microsoft have suffered more by not buying Nokia mobile division? Or would they have benefited?

Post your thoughts below and lets imagine a different past, present and future

I'll just keep this here in case of emergency in this thread.

Anyways, I don't know. I'd love to say "oh they'd be successful with their Windows and Android phones" but I really don't know.

I think Nokia would have closed the hardware/phone division anyway.
The phone business would have bankrupted Nokia eventually.

Think MSs acquisition of Nokia caused a lull in the platforms progression, then the “change of direction” added another blow.

Do believe if Nokia was still in the mix we’d have seen a better evolution of handsets compared the MSs offerings, maybe even broader availably, that is, until W10M started to take hold. Tough when one company is focusing on two entities, device/OS, surely MS held back with the hardware because of 10s development.

I like your views, you're right that it would have been easier to focus on W10M only instead of both phone and software

Nokia wouldn't have been in a better place and at the very best case scenario shoulder-to-shoulder with today's HTC... I thought their Asha touch screen phones look awesome but I doubt they'd put that same quality out or competitive specs.
