I bought 930 two years ago and still use it as my only phone. I don't know what I will do when it dies and hope it will not be very soon, may be couple more years, so Microsoft finally release a new phone (or better a Windows 10 on ARM PC in phone's form)

Switched from iPhone 4 in Dec 2012 to the awesome Lumia 920 -> Lumia 830 (briefly used a Lumia 520) -> Lumia 950 -> Samsung Galaxy A5 Still love the W10M platform, the UI is gorgeous, but there were some apps I needed and wanted to give Android a try. Still have my 950 to switch to when I feel like it, and will buy a Surface "Pocket"/ultra-mobile PC in a heart beat when/if it arrives.

    Nokia 928

Bought this pre-order through VZW. Still use it as my daily driver. Running W10M (10586 - latest Insider Preview available before getting shut out by MSFT).

Hoping against hope for that awesome next device from Microsoft. Else it'll probably be a Galaxy S9...
Interesting to see a Lumia 928 in here. :) It's the 920 variant with the xenon flash, right?

Get ready for a long-winded and nostalgic post...

    HTC HD2>HTC 7 Trophy>Lumia 900>HTC 8X>Lumia 928>808 PureView>Lumia 1020>Lumia 520>Lumia 635>HTC One M8>Lumia 1520>Lumia Icon>Lumia 640 LTE

Let's not even discuss my forays into webOS (PixiPlus, PrePlus, Pre2, Pre3, TouchPad), iOS (3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S, Mini2, Air2) and Android (every Nexus ever made, NookColor, FireHD, etc.) - that would be an even crazier topic. Being an info-sec dev is exhausting.

    My Windows Phone journey begins...

The HD2 was a classic and could run a variety of mobile operating systems. I have personally run Windows Mobile 6.5.5, Windows Phone 7.8 (7.10.8862.144) and Android KitKat 4.4.4 on the HD2.

The HTC Trophy was a nice device for Windows 7, apart from having to install the 7.8 update (7.10.8862.144) via SevenEighter…

The Lumia 900 was a classic device that was given to me – it’s too bad it wasn’t able to move to WP8. The design was rather iconic, in my opinion.

The HTC 8X was perhaps the sleekest Windows Phone and my wife loved it – it was tough to get it updated to WP8.1, however, but it finally got there.

The Lumia 928 had a great camera with an awesome xenon flash, but it had sharp corners and was rather heavy-feeling. I enjoyed it until it shattered after landing face down from a 1-foot drop.

The 928’s camera quality inspired me to try the 808 PureView, even though the phone ran Symbian OS 10.1 (Nokia Belle Feature Pack 2) – that was a revelation in photo quality, so I had to pick up the Lumia 1020 when it was available for a reasonable cost. The camera on that was equally inspiring, but the fact that is was frozen on 8.1 was disheartening; I sensed a pattern emerging here...

I picked up the 520 and later the 635 and 640 series to give to family and friends that needed to replace cell phones they lost or damaged. The phones were cheap and free to unlock once the law was in place. Just add a 64GB microSD & a SIM and you were off. The 520 truly felt cheap and the 635 improved that somewhat with better build quality and a better screen. Most 635 units had only 512MB RAM, which did impede multi-tasking performance (and W10M was really affected by this – I had 2 635s at one time and compared the 512MB model to the 1GB version - the difference was stark). Both variants ran WP8.1 just fine – W10M just seems to prefer 1GB RAM for decent performance. The 520 runs W10M rather glacially compared to 8.1 (I had 2 of those to test as well).

The HTC One M8 intrigued me because it was nearly identical to the Android variant and I was interested in potentially dual-booting Android and WP. I really enjoyed the DOT case and the microSD expand-ability for a higher-end phone. Too bad W10M never officially support it.

The 1520 is the biggest WP I ever owned, and it was glorious, but I preferred the more compact Icon, due to its higher PPI density and higher-quality OLED screen (though the microSD capability of the 1520 was a big plus for me).

The 640 LTE I bought was the culmination of the cheap Lumia phones – it finally featured a camera flash, offered 1GB RAM standard across the board and even supported 128GB microSDs! This was the best budget Windows Phone (and perhaps the best budget phone period at the time), and it was routinely available for under $40. Unlock it for free via AT&T, pop in a 128GB microSD and the SIM of your choice and you were good to go. You could even swap batteries on the fly (literally).

Today was bittersweet; I just posted my Lumia Icon and HTC One M8 on eBay and will be holding onto the 640 LTE. Now that W10M is on “hold” and only the 640 will see any feature updates, it’s the one to keep. The fact that the 640 is unlocked, has a user-replaceable battery and 128GB microSD capability means it’s a keeper.

Once I loaded the Creators Update on the Icon it was time to let it go – though it is faster than the 640 and has a much better screen, it can’t hold the music that the 640 can (no microSD) and I can’t replace the battery mid-flight. I can also sell the Icon for way more than the 640 (which I picked up new for under $40).

I kept the One M8 so long because I missed and preferred WP8.1 sometimes and it also had a 128GB microSD, in addition to the cool DOT case. However, as W10M matured and apps ceased supporting 8.1 it was time to let that one go as well. I never thought my “final” Windows mobile device would be a nearly-disposable cheapie, but here we are.

I am a long time Nokia fan, who reluctantly made the jump to Windows Phone from the "grandfather" of Lumia's the Nokia N1 rocking MeeGo, and my personal Windows Phone device history has been: Lumia 1020 (unbranded, white) > Lumia 830 (white, black) > Lumia 950XL.

I have also purchased the following WP's for family members and gotten to use them, as well:

    Lumia 810 (black) > Lumia 521 (white) > Lumia 925 > Lumia 830 (unbranded, white), Lumia 1020 (black) > Lumia 950 (black).

Now, I have an iPhone 6s Plus (sorry, but I do actually love it). It was sad to leave Windows Phone, but WM10 is a huge let down.

Pocket PCs included: NEC Mobile Pro P300, HP IPAQ H1945, and Dell Axim X50 (mid).

Thought it'd be fun to share our Windows Phone histories with one another. Doing so is simple, just follow the format I use below:

Example: Dell Venue Pro > Nokia Lumia 510 > HTC 8XT > Nokia Lumia 822 > Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 > Microsoft Lumia 950 XL > HP Elite X3

(my personal history is a lot shorter!) lol

    What's your WP history!?
Samsung Focus -> Nokia Lumia 720, matte cyan -> Nokia Lumia 1020, matte black* -> Lumia 950**

*The 720 was by far my favorite Windows Phone! I wasn't too happy when the microphone stopped working, though I had purchased the $99 protection plan at the Microsoft Store and they gave me the 1020 for FREE, no questions asked. TREMENDOUS customer service. Still, I never loved this phone like my old cyan beauty; the camera was awesome but incredibly slow.

**This thing is an abomination. It's not only the worst electronic device I've ever owned (by a country mile), it may be the most unreliable thing I've ever had in my possession. I still cannot fathom how much of a train wreck W10M is. WP7 and 8 were slick and innovative, this is clunky, inconsistent and buggier than a roach-infested apartment building. Because of this, the 950 is my LAST Microsoft handset. No matter how cool, powerful or useful a hypothetical Surface Phone could be, I refuse to buy one because this experience has been so bad.

Switched from iPhone 4S to Lumia 1520 in summer 2014. Some family members reacted as if I'd "left the faith". But I wanted a huge phone, and have deep personal reservations about using anything related to Google. So Windows it was. Plus, I'd seen some Lumias (Lumiae???) featured on several tv shows (NCIS-LA, notably) and liked how they looked.

At the risk of perhaps coming across a bit melodramatic -- using a Windows Phone was life-changing. Yes I enjoyed the hardware and OS, and I liked how I enjoyed a consistent experience across my devices. But the COMMUNITY of fans surrounding MS & WP was what hooked me.

I partly shattered the 1520 screen in September of 2015. It still runs, and I keep WP8.1 on it. I go back to visit sometimes. (I like how Twitter syncs w People Hub.)

Grabbed a L640 at Best Buy (AT&T Go Phone). It was ok -- it held me over till my next upgrade.
Got L950 in Jan 2016, and I've been with it everyday since. I like it well enough, but I've never LOVED it the way I adored my 1520.

I thought WP would just be a quick diversion from iOS. Something I'd try out for awhile, for fun. Now I cant imagine using anything else.

    Sorry about that. Here's short version --- L1520 > L640 > L950

-L520 Was my first smartphone, before I loved a lot QWERTY phones, but I wanted an upgrade. It got me into windows phone os, I really liked it.
-L530 I used it only 2 months (was mom one), because L520 died (After 15 months of use, good phone, now is dead, showing error unable to find a bootable option.)
-L535 This was a huge upgrade for me, 5 inch screen, 1gb ram, quad core, and most inportant, Windows 10, now its dead too, a chip from motherboard which controls the touch is broken, and if you even drop the phone from 0.5 metters, it will broke, it also getsvery hot cause of that chip, good phone.
-L640 I have it for more than 12 months now, it's purely awesom, very good phone, I'm an windows phone fan for 4 years now, and I still wanna support it, definitely good os, in my opinion, better than android!

This phone will get quite old, I will get a new one around Christmas, with windows phone os on it :)

Also, my dad still uses L530, he wanted to be a cool guy and have a smartphone, also, he says its a very durable phone, he dropped it on rocks, water and one time in a small flame, the case was quite burned.
My mom has L550, she says its a very good phone, he likes it!
My sister was owned my old phone, the L535, after it broke, he brought a Huawei P9 Lite, she says that she wanted to support windows phone more, but there aren't some important apps for she.

This is my story about windows phone, i loved em and I will love them in future too! :D

Sorry about my English tho :)

    LG Optimus (Win 7.8) -> LG Optimus (Win 7.8) -> Lumia 650 (windows 10)

The first phone I got about 4 years ago off amazon for $40, and lasted for about 2 years.
I switched to T-mobile, and somehow the mobile part stopped working. The wifi still works,
and the Zune music works along with games, so it's my music player now.

So I went on amazon and bought the same exact phone for $40 again, and have been using
it for another 2 years, which I am still currently using.

I love windows phone 7.8, and have never bothered with windows phone 8 or 8.1, because
none of them have hardware keyboards.

A friend bought me a Lumia 650, and I never use it because I don't like windows 10, but
i can still use it for wifi, and music. I hate pure touchscreens, so most of the time it is
    sitting at home.
