It has to be the Lumia 1020 and I never even owned one. It was simply the best of Nokia in a photography focused smartphone at the time and had not only the smartphone industry but the compact camera market running scared, DSLR probably looked over its shoulder for a brief while too. It showed how things could have continued to have gotten even better under Nokia's own direction and leadership. (And also seems particularly sad and ill-considered that Microsoft picked it all apart and let it all mostly go).

Probably the 640 or the 520 because they were great phones for their price (especially in the US).

+1

I loved the pocketability and how smooth the 520 was, and the camera was also nice too. I miss that phone size a lot actually.

Enjoyed the 640 too because it was very nice. I wished that it was smaller like the 520 a good amount of the time though.

When I had my 920 I thought it was the best. Then I got a 1520 and I still think it's the best.
Yup, when I got the 920 it wasn't just the best Lumia, it was the best phone in the market. Period.
The innovations it had was heads above everything else out there, then.
But in terms of usability with Win10, I'm going for L1520.
The jury is still out on my current 950XL

1 - 950xl - only WP to keep me long term
2 - 1520 - best at the time but too bulky
3 - 1020 - awesome camera with a phone attached as a bonus

This post needs a poll with the most relevant options! I had a 620, but I would say the 1520 had it all (bar xenon flash), or the 920.

You could also include in the poll the 520, 640, 640xl, 1020, 930, 950, 950xl, 928. Mostly the opposite ends of the spectrum... seems that were the most popular, while not so much the middle-level models.

The 720 is an excellent mid-entry phone, one of those that feels very comfortable in the hand. My missus bought one about 4yrs ago. It is still running, on W8.1/Denim, on original battery ...
Too bad it was only released in selected markets.

I just 'upgraded' to a L950 (bit late I know) from a L920. In simple terms, I think the L920 was an important phone, and it just did so many things right. The fact that I was happy with it still until now, over 4 years later, just shows how great a phone it was. The camera is still decent, battery life acceptable (easily got that 1 day) and the feel was good.

At that point, it's when the improvements to smartphone hardware, essentially ended. There haven't really been any really major upgrades, and it's rather annoying because the price of flagship smartphones has really gone up.

Lumia 1020 for it's time. Best camera, underpowered though. Took forever for the camera to load, missed lots of pictures. Post processing took too long, making shot to shot times long. But what a camera. My wife still uses it as her daily driver. I am now on a 950. Less than one second to load the camera, shot to shot fast. Wish it had the 1020 camera sensor though.

We all dream those dreams ... of 1020/808 cameras on a 950XL...

The Lumia 1020 really needed the processor that the 1520 has.
