I figured that I'll ask, because I'm curious to know.

My dad only uses WhatsApp, HERE Maps, and MSN News so for him, I think it's worth it to stay on it. 8.1 is stable, and even though Windows 10 Mobile is becoming less glitchy, I would rather not have him deal with such an experience.

What do you think? Is 8.1 still worth using if one doesn't use many apps? Are you one of these people and/or do you have a friend/spouse/associate who is one of these people?

I would say it is worth it for those of us that don't enjoy intimidating over the top features.
Ate one seems so basic after using other current options.
Also it takes some users a while to completely get comfortable with a smartphone. For this reason I believe an almost dead version may fill the bill for so many nongeek types.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. You have a great point there.

For old times sake I put a SIM in the 925 and started using it again.
Been using it for phone calls mostly.

Wow, I didn't expect this. I'm sure that the size coming from the Mate 9 is an adjustment. I'm guessing that you use the Mate 9 for pictures (of course I mean when it comes to phones)?

    True!
The 925 is a tiny 'lil thing :)
I forgot how slim in the pocket it is with no case on it.

Camera is pretty good still...always did love that Nokia interface.

HAH! .... was thinking of doing this myself! The 925 was my 2nd smartphone after the 521.

Wonder how many others came up from the 521 to the 925?

I know of a couple more. Female friend. Her first smartphone was the 521. After I got the 925 I showed her and said, "If you like that phone you're gonna love this one." lol .... and she did. She gave the 521 to a friend of hers who also went on to the 925.

Oh yeah. Didn't want to attempt putting W10M on it ... didn't want to take a chance of screwing it up. Loved that phone as is.

My 640 and 735 are still on WP8.1. I feel more comfortable on 8.1 than W10M.

I still have my inlaws parked on 8.1. They have a Lumia 635 and a 640. I wouldn't put them on 10. I'm keeping my eye on this as some of their apps are likely to start getting borked.

I have to disagree with Richard. From a UX standpoint, I still think 8.1 has slight edge and still looks quite refreshing. I pulled out my 1020 the other day because my 950XL keeps constantly rebooting (I'm not sure if it's the battery or not). I think Cortana looks better, Quiet Hours integrates with your calendar, and the People hub is actually still useful.

W10M is basically dead as well, so as long as 8.1 meets your needs, why change? There were certainly some nice things that 10 changed over 8.1, but if you're still rocking 8.1 today, it's not worth it. As much as it pains me to say this, I'd argue that any change from running 8.1 today would have to be to Android or iOS.

I am not planning on ever upgrading my 830 to Windows 10(come to think of it I don't even know if I can). I like 8.1 and don't want to spend the time learning a new OS unless forced into it.

I just recently moved from a 1020 to a 950. My favorite part of WM10 is speech to text for every field. That alone has made it worth it for me, with reliable wireless charging a close second. (The wireless charging shell for the 1020 was so frustrating.) I don't understand all the complaints I read about the OS and stability. For me it has been on par with WP8.1. Yes, hamburger menus are annoying. I wish those would go away. For me the impetus to move was that IE became more and more useless and FB Messenger stopped working altogether.

I am still using Windows phone 8.1 only because I'm stuck with Sprint and there is no upgrade to Windows 10 for the Samsung ativ s neo. Have a Lumia 635 512mb that runs Windows 10 mobile, its ok. But yeah Windows 8.1 is much more stable. Wish I could get an upgrade for the Ativ s neo though.

There's not enough choices for people if they want to move to W10M. Granted stability is better, and if your a fan you see past those warts and all. Mostly die harders still use the 950 series. I'm one of them :). The HP and Alcatel are the only other two phones to choose from of any quality after that.

It depends on what they use their 8.1 device for though too. Security risks are still minimal at this point. But that could change. I'd say use it till the wheels fall off. What's the worse that could happen right? Heck folks still use Android 2.1 devices out there if you look hard enough and to me that's more of a worry.

Well, I'm pretty unanimous in my support of WP8.1 over W10M. I will continue to use my Lumia 1020 as my daily driver. I don't consider my needs "minimalist". W10M brings nothing to the table that's all that special (I know, because I've been testing all the insider builds on my 950, which is a crappy device all its own). I get much more stable performance and faster performance from my 1020 than I do the 950. Just last night I was TRYING to record a video of choreography for a show I'm directing and the stupid thing kept sputtering and freezing. I whipped out the 1020 and had ZERO issues. So, yes, I'll keep relying on my 1020 and WP8.1.

I moved along time ago to W10M when it1st came out I got a 950 from AT&T replaced my 1020 with it, glad I made the switch, even my 1020 is on W10M as well as my 640XL.
As the builds get higher they get better and better more stable all the time.
All my Apps stopped lagging when typing in them. Now I can type with no lag.
I'm with W10M till the dying end, I refuse to give my Android buddy the satisfaction of going with android, not happening ill ho back to a dumb phone before that ever happens, and as far as Ios F... That, I hate everything Apple royally.

Switched from W10M to Android. But for taking pics + video I still use my 1020 on 8.1 regularly.
