Is it still a useable phone? I need a phone for travel that has a really good camera. I'd buy a Lumia 950 but Microsoft has pulled them from their website.

TIA,

Bill

Depends on what you really need.
A phone or a camera.
The 1020 is way past it's prime in both arenas.
It's a usable phone even stuck on WP 8.1
The camera is good although not a speedy shooter.

Since both phones are only available from second hand sellers, I'd just find a good, used 950. The 1020 that I had never lived up to my expectations as a camera. My main gripe was that it was super slow. I also never got the super crisp shots that I saw others posting, but that was probably user error. The 950's camera, while behind the 1020's on paper, is a very good, speedy camera. I never had issues with it doing its thing.

I agree about the speed of 1020 as a camera, but my style of photography does not demand fast shot to shot times. I also agree it is past prime for phone use and have mine reserved solely for camera.

Swappa is a good and generally reliable source for used phones sold from enthusiasts to enthusiasts with some resellers mixing in. They have 2 Lumia 950 for sale ATM.

If you only need a phone to make calls while traveling I would certainly suggest finding a Nokia 808. I've yet to find a more impressive camera despite its age.

I would say it's a good camera phone - the 1020 that is - battery life might not be that long - say 200-300 photos on a single charge. But you can get the dng (raw) files which you can then edit

The 950 has the benefit of faster camera, better video capabilities, better battery and supported apps, expandable storage

I'll leave the decision to you

I'd focus on finding the Lumia 950 if I were you. Not only will the camera knock the 1020 away, but the 950 will also be supported for longer. The 1020 on the other hand can't even been officially updated to Windows 10.

Thanks all. I'll check eBay for new, old stock 950's. Are all of the dual SIM 950's usable in the States?

Thanks,

Bill
