I'm completely new at this. There is a song I want to buy from the Windows Phone Store. What I want to know is when I've bought it, do I get like an mp3 file on my phone that I can copy to my computer?
I don't have XBox music pass and don't intend to get it.

yeah you can, it will be a .wav file, but that doesn't really matter because you can convert it to mp3 using a converter if you really want a mp3 file.
