Does HP make any variants of the Elite X3 smartphone , i.e. US and international versions and different specs or is the Elite X3 smartphone the same all around the world?

All x3s are the same, with one exception. Some regions have a single-SIM tray instead of a dual-SIM tray (from what I remember). Both can still fit a SIM + microSD in the tray.
All other hardware specs are the same. Bundles (and obviously pricing) will vary by location and retailer.

EDIT: Looks like I was mistaken, there is also a difference in bands. See below.

From the spec sheets I read prior to its official launch I saw there was a difference in the available radio bands. This was on N. America model as opposed to the European model...is this true?

Thanks a lot for the spec sheet, Kyle!
Anybody else saw it in there? They say that Camera is going to have PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus with a Firmware Update 'coming soon'. The Spec Sheet version is almost a month old and I would suppose that they are not refferring to the v14 Firmware, as this is deffo doing contrast autofocus. It would be great to have PDAF.

I did not even notice. Are they known for publishing data sheets that contain future enhancements lately? I know before release that was true, with the finger print reader...but that was an os level update.

There is plenty of information on the x3 on HP.com. There's even a full step-by-step teardown and repair guide, think that one might be a mistake though. ;)

These documents usually go up when products launch (standard for all HP products). They usually don't have information on future enhancements. In this case PDAF and fingerprint were hardware features and so they were noted here.

Kyle, yes, indeed I did notice the teardown guide and I did as well download and save it ;) But it seems that the display needs to be unglued before gaining access - ugh. I am not minding a teardown at all, but as soon as there is full area glue - oh well.

Now, on to Hard resetting and manually rebuilding :)

I believe it is, but thought I would ask. Is this HPs first mobile phone (this is more of a phablet)...? I know they have a couple of LTE tablets out there.

The glue is needed for the water and dust resistance. No easy way to open and reseal the device without the right tools and supplies. Obviously don't try to open the x3, at best you'll lose the water/dust resistance and of course, warranty.

HP had some Windows mobile devices a long time ago, the iPAQ's and journadas. Those were discontinued over ten years ago.
There was also the webOS phones, including the Pre and Veer.
I think there were also some phablets released in a small number of countries.
This is really a whole new product for HP though. There hasn't ever been such a big focus on mobility, this is also the first that's actually part of the main personal computers group. That's one reason why its marketed as a 3-in-1 computer and never referred to as a phone.

Gotcha. I owned an iPAQ years ago, with I believe Windows Mobile 2003.

Yep, same here.... Owned about 4-5 different ones... I still have my HP HX4705 still rated as one of the best PDA devices ever.

Mine I hacked and upgraded it to Windows Mobile 6.5.3.....still use time to time for a few games...
