Got in on the HP Stream 7 for $75 deal from Microsoft back in early December. The tablet is nice, have no issue with it except for a wifi connectivity problem. This is a problem that I cannot figure out. When I'm at home, the tablet connects to my wifi internet with no problem at all. In fact, it even connects to my iPhone hotspot via wifi with no issues. However, for some strange reason, this thing can never connect to a public wifi signal anywhere! Even if it somehow does connect, it gives me a "Limited Connectivity" message. It wouldn't even pull up the blah blah blah user agreement page to use the public wifi. I've tried updating the driver to no avail. Thoughts? Is this a dud or some software issues that can easily be rectified?

Yep, I get "WifI doesn't have a valid IP configuration." Again, this does not happen with home wifi or iPhone hotspot wifi, just when I try to connect to a public wifi.

Yea, ive been getting this for awhile now... I have had this tablet for over a week and it worked fine for the first i think 2 days.. Then BAM it started breaking... I have tried EVERYTHING to fix it to no avail, and im out of ideas... i have an xbox one and laptop on the same wifi and neither of them have ANY issues on it.. No drops or nothing, so something in this tablet is having issues i hope / think it has to do with the driver, but i uninstalled the old wifi driver and re installed the new driver but it still says the old driver so idk. As much as limited connection and reset wifi adapter and all that crap is annoying, what is even more annoying is the fact that 80% of the time it says connected but wont load web pages or ANYTHING for that matter, it soooo annoying, im glad im not the only one having this problem. If you know of anything that helped you fix your problem let us know on this forum, as i have tried basically everything i can think of including resetting to factory defaults and nothing works.

yeah, I only have the device for a few days and cannot say whether my router settings will actually do anything long term.
I too noticed that after logging out and in (e.g. different users) the WiFi showed that it's connected but I would not be able to open any webpages. There was no internet connection, but the device thought it's connected. Only a reboot would fix the problem.

I gave the device a permanent IP address on my LAN and so far I have not seen any issues yet. I will report back if this stays like this. I wasn't able to try this on public WiFi yet and if the above may be a workaround on your home LAN it won't work on public access points of course.

    cheers

Guys, I was getting this as well, but running HP Support Assistant > Internet & Security > HP Network Check, resolves it for me. I've had to run it a couple of times so doesn't seem to be a permanent fix, but it only takes seconds to run and, as per the mantra on this site, I have to keep reminding myself it's a 75 tablet :)

I had this tablet for a month and have to sell it in eBay. Got instead a Lenovo A8-50 for $136... So far so good. No issues at all. I will wait for the upcoming windows 10 tablets.

from everything ive just read it sounds like you havent connected to the internet provider whose wifi you are accessing. many public wifi providers require users to agree w/ their terms of service so people dont try to access pirated networks, porn in public, or telephony services that hog bandwidth. next time youre out try to ask about a password or process for signing in as a guest on their server.

no valid ip error means your device hasnt negotiated with the network. the limited connectivity error happens because your device and the network have found each other but havent shaken hands.

    hope this helped.

    Hi,

It seems to be an issue with the wifi driver for me (I updated them and it started the same symptoms). I uninstalled the wifi driver by:

    Open 'Control Panel'
    Open 'Device Manager'
    Expand 'Network Adapters'
Tap and hold on 'Realtek RTL8723BS Wireless LAN'
    Open 'Properties'
    Open the 'Drivers' tab
Tap 'Uninstall' and follow the prompts.

But if you uninstall them what do you do then? If you uninstall they're is no way to connect, as the WiFi effectively disappears.

Didn't with me, it just refused to work, full stop. So after swearing at the thing for 6 hours last night, I gave up and exchanged it this morning. Thankfully the new one is working fine.
