Don't know how to put icons on desktop in Windows 8.1 HP Stream 7 tablet

On the HP Stream 7 tablet, you have two views: that Metro one, and the normal desktop as you on a regular pc. I'd like to be able to place icons on the screen in normal desktop view. Sure, you can pin apps to the taskbar-- but that's it. Is there a solution?

Go into Explorer, create a shortcut and paste it to your desktop

In Windows Explorer, tap and hold on the file you want a shortcut to and select Send To, then Desktop
