Is this a good price for the 8s on prepaid?

$114... sounds like a neat deal. Don't know how it stacks up against the 520 though in terms of price.

The 520 is $159, but since the 8s is so damn cheap i might as well get it.

Don't do it! The 4GB storage on the 8s is so limiting it kills the device for many people. I've seen more than just a few people regret that purchase. The L520 is the much better deal!

If you're going to buy HTC, it really needs to be the 8x.

I'm buying the 8s as just a cheap way to get into windows phone (well from the current price point), it has a microSD card slot, so I don't see much worry with 4GB of storage.

But I will consider the lumia 520.

You can't install apps to the SD card, so even if you add a 128 GB SD card, as far as apps are concerned, you've still only got 4 GB of storage. A good chunk of that space is used for temporary OS files. Whatever is left is what your apps + all the data they maintain have at their disposal.

IMHO for most people the 8s simply isn't a good choice. For people like you, who hang out at WPC, I expect it to be even more limiting. I suspect the 8s might turn out to be a constant source of frustration rather than a good introduction to windows phone. I would recommend you at least read this review. If after that you're still convinced the 8s is the right device for you, then by all means have at it. ;-)

    Oh man, 1.1GB usable?

    I thought it was 2.2GB...

I'm gonna have a look at the 520 now...

Didn't know choosing a device would be so hard.

The 8s is the only WP8 device with less than 8GB of storage space, and with that HTC took their cost cutting measures just one step too far. You had the bad luck of tending towards that one WP8 device that should be avoided. If you disregard the 8s, then you can't really go too wrong no matter what WP8 device you buy.

Obviously, some people can make due with the 8s, but I don't expect to meet many of those people here at WPC.

    Anyway, good luck!

No it isn't. The Huawei Ascend W1 also has 4GB of storage.

Woops... right... It's not easy remembering that Huawei is also doing WP8. Well... that makes two devices people should avoid...

Hopefully this 4 GB nonsense ends soon.
