HTC 8x Unable to take photos in it's full resolution

I have an HTC 8x.. it can take photos with 8MP but whenever i choose option of 8MP the photos it takes is only of resolution 1279x959
and it is unable to take photos beyond that resolution

I am not a genius when it comes to pixels, but what used to happened in android is when you opt for full megapixels, it used to lower the viewfinder considerably.
Altough I saw a video in Nokia's conference (About Lumia 920) it was told that their phones don't do that, am not sure how much of that is applicable to HTC?
The photos are quite good btw.

4:3 vs 16:9
Only in 16:9 do you get full finder view. Don't forget to save your changes.
