I am due for an upgrade on christmas eve (lucky me) and have been heavily leaning towards the surround. It just seems like a tank & very well built; also plastic chrome pieces like the ones on the focus make me vomit lol. Anyways after checking out reviews and comments on the surround the only thing I am concerned about on the surround is the camera. Ive seen a lot of negative reviews on the camera and wanted to get your experiences with taking pictures & videos so I know Im making the right choice.

For still images the camera is fine. Sometimes its hard to focus if what you want to photograph isn't stationary. I haven't really messed with the video side much. Then again I'm also one who doesn't really consider the camera part of a device a big deal.

Here are a few pics I had on my phone that I uploaded to sky drive.

Marc - im totally stoked and cant wait to give it to him for christmas. we also got him a new solid state fender mustang 1 practice amp too. hes expecting the amp but has no clie about the guitar. schecter = great bang for your buck.

on topic - whats your opinion on the camera quality on the surround?

awesome christmas for your son! those mustangs sound pretty cool. Schecter is definitely good bang for the buck!!

I like the surround camera. I do not think the colors are as good as they were on the Captivate i owned, but i do believe that is because i havent played with any settings on the surround, and the captivate had a good auto capture setting which captured colors very well.

thanks guys, it doesnt seem to be as big of a problem as i thought it was. the overall quality of the surround and HTC's support of WP7 (Update to sense hub, their youtube app) has really made my choice easy.

have any of you experienced a problem with taking a picture with the flash on and the phone shuts off? in order to turn my phone back on i have to take out the battery and put it back in. or i have to plug it into the charger and it turns the phone back on. the battery life on the phone is either excellent or slightly low.

Sounds like a hardware problem. When I hear phones shutting down mysteriously when pressing on hardware, like a keyboard or camera button, I immediately think loose battery. With my Motorola phone, a workaround was to stick a piece of paper between battery and battery door. Could also be bad contacts between phone and battery. If possible, make sure the phone's contacts stick out far enough. Although, if you can, I would probably try to exchange the phone.
