Official WP8.1 for Ascend W1? When?

WP8.1 for Ascend W1

I read here (http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-phone-8-1-preview-developers/277026-confirmed-huawei-ascend-w1-will-work-windows-phone-8-1-a.html) that Ascend W1-U00 will get the WP8.1 update. I currently have SW version 8.0.10517.150 but still no WP8.1, and we are almost a year later.

Will there ever be an official update, or must I search for unofficial ways to install WP8.1?

Well, that post talks about the Russian rom that has 8.1, I don't really know if it is available at all for huawei handsets.

Huawei has washed its hands of the W1, so there will be no official 8.1. Probably would've happened by now anyway.

That thread you are referring to is using the Preview for Developers program, which is not the official/public release. Whether it'll work properly I can't guarantee, as it doesn't play well with Samsung devices yet generally is OK on Lumia's. I think the odds are good though.

Look on xda-developers, there are custom 8.1 ROMs already available for a while. Also you can use PfD and update to 8.1.1 and using my registry trick update to 8.1.2.

Ok, thank you all for the information (and post merging - sorry for that.). I'll see whether I can get 8.1 through Preview for Developers.
