You said it right, it is a companion app to the iPhone. Yes there are more iPhone users than windows phone users obviously, but how are they going to generate extra revenue from an apple watch? If they put time to make the windows phone app to get feature parity, and yes that includes ads than they would receive more revenue from a potential 70 million users. So, yes I believe this is an anti-Microsoft move. The apple watch may very well be successful, but that doesn't mean they will get 70 million users over devices where ads can be displayed at a reasonable size
