how do i recover from a display adapter update causing windows not to load?

I have a Lenovo U460 with the NVidia Geforce G305m display adapter. After the upgrade I found that the device wasn't being recognized in my Device Manager. I went to the NVidia website and downloaded the correct driver. After it had installed, my computer will no longer boot completely into the operating system. all I have is a blank screen, with an erratically blinking cursor showing. is there any fix for this?

Boot into Safe Mode and roll back the driver?
