Someone installed Windows Phone on a MacBook, because of course they did

Windows Phone up to 8.1 was a solid, innovative phone OS. Windows 10 Mobile was a half-arsed, incomplete, unstable excuse indicative of Microsoft's complacency in the mobile arena. Let's not sully the good name of Windows Phone.

    Is anyone else bothered?

Yeah over here we have a guy who likes wasted design and potential because...pinning, and he doesn't want to use his 2 in 1 in tablet mode with pen as he should, and - even though he is already using them with pen and touch - he is questioning desktop and taskbar icons, forcing billions of...

    Is anyone else bothered?

If the desktop gets messy with icons on it, the Start menu is already messy full of tiles. This is not a valid point. Tiles were never designed for you to pin stuff somewhere. Go read up on the philosophy of tiles. Also those same 2 in 1 users are already dealing with icons on the taskbar and...

    Is anyone else bothered?

Honestly I'm sick of people too. Same people who championed Windows 8's schism of personality are generally fine with the status quo, whatever it may be. If Microsoft designed the OS in any other way, they'd arguing for that design regardless of its merits.

    Is anyone else bothered?

It is literally called "desktop mode". Just because there are 2 in 1s that force their user to work in the desktop mode - again, because of the failure of tablet mode - doesn't mean the rest of us should get barely usable tiles on our desktops, giving up functionality that should have been...

    Is anyone else bothered?

The reason is the failure of Tablet Mode. You'd pin Live Tiles in Tablet Mode the same way you do now. The problem is the tiles are not appropriate and functional on the *desktop* and my idea is to make them actually useful on the desktop. Philosophically the tiles were created to give you an at...

    Is anyone else bothered?

I think Live Tiles can be useful on Windows (they aren't right now IMO) only if they are treated like standardized widgets. I visualized the concept in another post: https://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10/485957-windows-10-ui-tweaks-redesign.html#post3776925

    Is anyone else bothered?

...that version after version, Microsoft keeps pushing out "features" most people won't use - like Timeline - and talking about it a whole lot and they just don't care a bit about polishing the OS where it matters? Isn't it that the OS is used on Microsoft's iconic TOUCH devices and tablets, and...

Windows 10 UI tweaks and redesign

A while ago I felt like I figured out what was wrong with the Settings app on Windows 10 and decided to give it a small tweak, thinking I managed to introduce massive UX improvements with a small change. I kept thinking about how the Windows 10 we've got has inherited a lot of inconsistencies...

    Did MS Ruin Skype?

Skype was at its height of success with zero brands having that much resonance with voice and video chat users. Microsoft simply bought it and absolutely destroyed it.

    Why Microsoft's Mobile Efforts Failed

The question was "Why Microsoft's mobile efforts failed", and I answered that. Pretty much any answer given in this thread could be met with "hindsight is 20/20". Yes, it is. But when asking what went wrong, you have no choice but to respond with things that if known back then, would have meant...

    Why Microsoft's Mobile Efforts Failed

I think the main reasons why Windows Phone isn't living today are pretty straightforward: 1) They got to the market significantly later than the competition: 3 years and 4 months too late, and by that time you've already lost. There is no doubt in my mind that if Microsoft came to the market...

Thoughts on the Surface Go price?

Microsoft could make a bigger impact by throwing in the TypeCover or pen. The downside of every Surface is that it doesn't include the keyboard which is definitely necessary to make the device usable. I think the price is too high if there is no cover.

RHYTHM the music player, now with 7 band audio equalizer

It's the Store. It may take some time for the app to become searchable in the Store as it was published to the Store today. The online Store is supposed to launch the Store app on the phone and navigate to the app detail page, but it doesn't always do that. Please use...

RHYTHM the music player, now with 7 band audio equalizer

I'm hoping for RHYTHM to be reviewed and take a spot on WindowsCentral's main page, but no one seems to respond to requests on whether the developer's program is still active, or new apps are being monitored, etc. Seeing as you are a moderator I'd appreciate any information you can give me on this.
