This is the reason why I used an app to un-hide the stock "Maps" app: Maps | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States). Even though it has the same backend as HERE, it generally gives excellent directions. In my experience up here in Canada, HERE is garbage.

I have had something similar happen. The keys on my Touch Cover stopped working, but the track pad was working fine. It's an easy fix: Charms->Settings->Change PC Settings->Update and Recovery->Recovery->Refresh. Wait for all of the updates to reinstall themselves and it should work.

There's no way to rollback system updates. Once they're done, they're done. What you might try to do is manually add T-Mobile's MMS vpn settings (Settings>Cellular). NB: You might be able to rollback if you have a developer account or something, but I'm pretty sure it's not straightforward and...

I looked in to Straight Talk, but as I said I'm in the US in spurts of 4-8 days (conferences), so a monthly plan, even if prepaid, wouldn't really work. My next trips are 5 days in March and 4 days in May. The T-Mobile per-day plan would be significantly cheaper than the $45 Straight Talk route...
