What is the point of getting a SP tablet without the pen? It doesn't work well with fingers or generic rubber tip styluses because the pen is its reason for being. Just get the pen and enjoy your device.

So far, my solution has been to pair my phone with the Surface, and use the phone's keyboard. But I'd much rather write.

This is happening only in FB-connected comments for newspaper articles. When I write longhand with the pen (yes, I'm that old!), each line I enter gets entered twice, and then the cursor jumps randomly through existing text and new letters and words are entered in the middle of existing words...

I've replied twice, and neither reply was posted! @ttsoldier, you're right - if you go to the Personalize handwriting recognition window and select Teach the recognizer your handwriting style, you get 2 fields in which to write your text, but nothing to compare it against. Must be a bug...

Type it in the entry field in the screen prior to the one you posted. The yellow fields are for practicing your writing. You write directly in the yellow fields.

I use Awesome Picture. The only problem is. that it saves the marked-up image as a .png file and not a .jpg Not a big issue for me, and it's very easy to use.

I type in my own words that the Surface has trouble recognizing. Type in your own sentence, then write it out.

I don't think you can disable default inking in OneNote - it's the whole point of OneNote. Why not just use Word instead?

I bought mine at a MS store, and set it up in-store just to make sure it all went ok. No issues whatsoever, love Hello.

I had the same problem with a brand new SP4. I switched my mail client to Outlook and couldn't be happier. The Mail app is for phones, not tablets.

You can't change the default. If you're tapping the kb icon with the pen, Windows brings up the handwriting input line. Then you can select the on-screen kb. If you want the on-screen kb right away, use your finger to touch the kb icon. You do know that Windows learns your handwriting, right...
